Younger Leaders Blog
Thom Rainer
October 9, 2005
Just a quick update. Dr. Thom Rainer arrived at LifeWay yesterday. He is going to be a terrific addition to the leadership of LifeWay. He has a great heart for helping churches engage the culture and be what God has placed us here to be. He will want to communicate with young ministers across the country in the next weeks.
I will remain here to work with him until Feb. 1. He is president-elect now and will assume the presidency on Feb. 1. I am so excited to have him here and grateful to God for the 100 day overlap to help him get situation and get off to a great start.

Hurricane Katrina
September 2, 2005
Greetings from Nashville. I know you join me in earnest prayer for the victims of Katrina. There are so many ways we can help and must help. I am proud that our SBC disaster relief teams were in place before the hurricane hit and were among the first to arrive on the scene of the disaster. Southern Baptist relief efforts are now the third largest in the country. Many if not most of the meals credited to the Red Cross were prepared and served by Southern Baptists! Thank God for the compassion that resides in our fellowship.

Can anything good come from the SBC?
August 29, 2005
I've really enjoyed reading various blogs but don't often respond mostly because of time constraints. I've appreciated the different perspectives and the comments posted to my blog as well. Below is my recent LifeWay@Heart column prompted by a comment posted on my blog. Keep pressing and challenging us to think. Discussion and debate is good.

Can anything good come from the SBC?
By James T. Draper Jr.
Good question and one worth asking again: Can anything good come from the SBC?
No doubt any reader with at least some Bible knowledge will recognize the title as a knock-off of Nathanael's response to Phillip when told by Phillip that he'd "found the one Moses wrote about" (John 1:43-51). I ask the question here in response to a comment that was recently posted on my Weblog. It read: "'...Strengthen what remains'...I am wondering what really does remain in the SBC?"

Persecution & the church
August 22, 2005
A number have responded by in one way or another to my column on persecution and the prayers of the Christians in China for us. Thanks, Kiki, for your passion for the church in America and whatever it takes to get and keep us on track!
If we are going to avoid the persecution, it is my deep conviction that we are going to have to truly come before God with broken hearts and repent. I read again this last week Nehemiah's prayer in the first chapter of Nehemiah.

Rick Warren
Several of you have asked me about the interview with Rick Warren that has been widely circulated. I wanted you to have a copy of a statement Rick released this past week. He said that he was offered the opportunity to review the interview before it went out, but he was on the run and didn't take time to do it. He admitted that was a mistake. I think he has done well in the very public arena he has found himself and knew that this interview didn't sound like the Rick Warren I know.
