Devotional Passage: Psalm 34:11-16
Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. Psalm 34:14
The battle between the two neighbors had been raging for years, and the only thing they had in common was their animosity for each other. One Sunday morning, however, everything changed. The church was in revival and one person responded to God’s call to repentance and made his way to the altar, stating publicly, “There is a person here today with whom I have been at extreme odds. I’ve come to make it right.” There was much weeping and rejoicing in my husband’s little church that Sunday as the two enemies forgave each other and embraced. Charles was only 8 years old at the time, and the lesson he learned then still impacts his life today.
The devotional passage points out that when we love and fear the Lord, we will choose to turn from sin, and do that which is good, pursuing peace every step of the way.
Do you have such love for God that you seek peace and choose to do good? To do so will bring the Father’s blessing.
Father, help me consistently choose to depart from evil and do that which is good in Your sight.
