Reflections...Session Two with Beth

"The Word of God is for Life!" is one of the statements Beth made early on in her session…and she truly lives this out in her own life. In the few years I've been on the LifeWay Women's Event Team I've never heard Beth speak on the same thing in the same way. She asks God for a fresh word for each audience and in His faithfulness a fresh word He gives.

Beth in audience

Beth claimed 1 Thessalonians 2:8 from Beth, Kay, and Priscilla to the women at Deeper Still…
"We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us." (1 Thess. 2:8 HCSB)

MG 0325

Like "Reflections…Session One with Priscilla," there is no way for me to duplicate the messages God brought through these women. So, once again, I will share my reflections and refer to the scripture Beth used during her teaching time.

Beth focused on 2 Samuel 6 where David moves the ark back to Jerusalem. Beth compared and contrasted David's first attempt to move the ark his way using a new cart with David's second attempt to move the ark God's way (2 Sam. 6 and 1 Chron. 15). As Beth shared from scripture and gave insight from her own life this was the rhema that jumped out at me.

  • The most awe-inspiring moments come when we throw up our faces to heaven and go "I can't believe you would do that for me." Even after David messed up, God still used David and allowed him to be a part of God's plan.
  • We are going to trust something…either we are going to trust God or we are going to trust something or someone else.
  • We've got to return to wholehearted obedience. As much as we may want to stick in our offense, our past, or stick in our excuses, it is time to move on and return to wholehearted obedience. Until we do the enemy is winning. We are called to live for more. Don't stay stuck…be set free.
  • God is good. I want the presence of God in my life. God's presence blesses. Base my trust back in a God that is good. Watch the blessing fall.
  • Not all difficulty comes as a result disobedience. However, sometimes we are disappointed and it turns to disobedience. "Because God did not obey us, we are not going to obey Him." If faith is defined as God obeying what I tell Him to do…we are about to be in trouble.

Another point that rocked my world was the reference to Song of Songs 6:12 (or Song of Solomon). I love when God uses Beth to take some random scripture like this one and bring it to life! After referring to some really "thick" book, Expositors' Translation of the Hebrew, Beth tied this metaphor or reference to the moving of the ark. Beth explained how the in Hebrew translation the writer is saying his heart was so caught up in love and romance that his heart would have taken off on a cart (like the ark taken on a cart by the sons of Ammi-nadab). My heart will carry me off to place of death (because we all know what happened when the ark was put on a new cart). When my heart is not in the hands of God…it is not going to end well. When we take our passion from Him, it is out there ready to be taken off on a new cart. Our passion should be taken on the two poles of God's Word and Prayer-the two poles used to carry the ark of the presence of God. It is time to take our hearts back where they belong…to God's Word and Prayer.

"The Word of God is for Life!" Let's not miss a fresh word from God every day…He is ready and faithful to give it!

Hi Michelle,

What a great over-view!! I wasn't even there and I could sense the heart of Beth's message through you're recap!! I am literally in tears just after reading the first paragraph, that scripture about did me in from 1 Thess. 2:8. Isn't that truly their hearts!! They really do take pleasure in bringing the gospel of God to us, and also themselves because we have become so dear to them. That just touched me deeply where I am this morning. God is good and I can trust Him even when I do not always understand His ways. He is good all the time!!!! I am going deeper still through prayer and the word tlhis morning!!

Thanks for making me feel as though I was there, and for your encouragment to be in the word, to pray and to obey!

Angela and Patty...you are both precious treasures. What a thrill to hear you say you felt like you were there! That was one of the ideas behind the Deeper Still blog...to join us all together in unity and prayer even if we were not physically attending the event. We are joined together as one body by the power of Christ's Holy Spirit. To God be the glory!

Words can not express what I felt this past weekend! God DID reveal Himself and I came away forever changed!! I would love to have the words Beth had us turn to our friend and say on Saturday. If you could post that or e-mail it to me. I would love to have a copy and give one to my friend.

Thanks again for an awesome weekend!

I am wondering if you might post the "Commissioning" that Beth had us do at the end of the event. It was powerful in that moment and I'd like to remind myself of it from time to time. Thanks so much for the reflections you are posting. I'm drinking 'deeper still" as I am reviewing my notes from the weekend and reading the blog.

Shalom!

Hi Michelle,

I was at the Deeper Still Event this past weekend in Nashville and I was looking for you or someone who knows you to deliver a message from a friend of yours, Connie Cunningham. I managed to find Mark Satterfield (did I get his name right) at the marriage booth and spoke with him for a few minutes. He knew Connie as well because he had coordinated with her for the marriage conference we just had at our church in Cincinnati with Gary Chapman. Anyway, I took a stab at it and asked if he knew you and asked him to deliver the message if he saw you and remembered. If not, Connie asked me to hug your neck and tell you she loves you! I never, in a million, years thought I would even find someone to deliver her message to you so I was so excited to see your name on the Deeper Still blog postings.

By the way, I STILL have not recovered from last weekend and I pray to the good Lord above that I never will! All I want is more of Him. Thank you and all the Lifeway staff for putting on such a great event! Praise God for the Word and the all the workers, the music, the musicians, and the speakers!

I pray God is blessing your day and your way!

Hey gals,

We are trying to get the commissioning from Beth and post it next week. She started her Tuesday night Bible study this week, so it has been a busy week for her office. As you know she writes those commissionings (when she does them at events) on the day she reads them (once again bringing us something fresh and not canned). If there is time the words are put up on slides, but this one at Deeper Still was not written far enough in advance. I promise we are working on it! Keep watching the blog...love you sisters...you are the best!

WAHOO! Thanks Mindy! I receive that hug from you and from my sweet friend Connie! What precious people God has put in my life...and Connie is among the most precious gems! I'm sure Mark S. would have given me the message except for the fact that we never saw one another the entire weekend! He was at his post on the concourse level and I was at mine on the floor level. But so glad you recognized my name on the blog! Praying for all the believers in the Cincinnati area...keep shining the light of Jesus!

Blessings on you today Mindy and thanks for the message and hugs! Michelle

The weekend in Nashville was too awesome for words. I have attended several conferences in the last few years and have never experienced what I experienced in Nashville. I came home with my heart absolutely over-flowing! I am still so excited. I just wanted Beth to know that the double-portion you prayed for us, I got it sister! I don't want this feeling to end. After listening to all three speakers who were absolutely incredible, I know that I have to be more diligent in getting filled daily. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to attend Deeper Still. I already have my ticket for next year! I ain't missing it! Travis and Anthony (and the praise team) , the Praise music was awesome. I love every minute of it. You are all so gifted! (let me know if you need an "alto" sub!) I have heard Beth a few times now and I am never disappointed. She continues to just blow me away. This time I was blown away by Kay and Priscilla as well. (Cedar Springs Christian Bookstore needs to put some Priscilla on the Shelves!) Thank you all for continuing to let God use you to help your other sisters along. May God Bless all of you as you have blessed us. I have known for some time that God has a purpose for me and wants to use me. Pray for me that I hear his voice and the calling he has for me. I also want to add that I so loved the last 25 minutes of the conference. It is so good to see you all get real with us. It was hilarious! Beth, I don't think there is anything wrong with your dancing! (maybe Priscilla could tutor me as well!) I love you all!

I think I am one of the few college students that attended the deeper still experience, and my life will never be the same! It has been hard for me to come back to school and study for my what seem to be meaningless classes. I finally have a deep longing in my heart to seek the Lord and really dig into His Word! In fact, that is all I want to do! I just can't get enough my God! I have to literally leave my house to get any studying done. I am having a hard time focusing on my school work because I am always wanting to read the word! I guess this is not such a bad problem to have!

Thank you Lifeway, thank you Kay, thank you Beth, thank you Priscilla, and thank you Travis and the Praise Team, for lettling the Lord use you in an incredible way!

I can't say enough about the teaching and the praise at Nashville. I brought my daughter, sister, and cousin from Michigan. Also, brought my daughter-in-law and three grandaughters from Spring Hill, TN. We were at the Curb Center. It was great. When Beth, Kay, and Priscella came over during the lunch break - well, it was just the most thoughtful and precious gesture. We really felt, as though we were a part of the Gaylord Entertainment Center. We did not miss out on a single thing.

Would like to know if it is possible to get a CD or DVD of the Nashville event. The word was so good and so anointed - it would be great to be able to reinforce what we heard. It is impossible to retain all that was said. It was soooo good. I would love to be able to replay it and to go over the scriptures while hearing it again.

Thank you for all you gave to us. May the Lord energize and strengthen you and bless all of you and your families.

Love,

Genine Johnson

Michelle,
Thank you for the re-cap. Beth said we must get past our devastation with God. That has stuck with me loud and clear because I have been struggling with hurt in my marriage for the past two years. Things have happened that I can't make sense out of. I have sought after reconciliation, counseling, etc. but don't seem to be getting anywhere with my husband. He will not agree to even go to a counselor. I had decided before I came it was hopeless. I'm definitely at a crossroads, like Kay mentioned, and am thoroughly confused now as to the choices I need to make. Please pray for me. I'm so glad I was there for the conference, but I feel a heaviness and want so much to do the right thing,
Dee

Dee,
Please know that I will be praying for you. And all who read your prayer request on this blog will join in praying for you.

In the "Reflections...Session Three with Kay" I used one of Kay's questions, "Are you experiencing trials that you never dreamed of—thought you would never go through?" This sounds similar to the crossroad you are facing. I don't know your situation but would love to share one verse with you that I shared while training the Encouragers for Deeper Still.

"Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 15:13 (HCSB)

Praying for the God of hope to comfort you and give you wisdom and discernment. He is not a God of confusion. When I don't know what to do...all I can do is "be still and know that He is God." (Psalm 46:10) Being still while praying, digging deep into His word for biblical guidance and answers...and waiting for His direction.

Praying you will know that He is God over your life and your marriage...and praying He will work miracles for His glory. Dee, please know there will be many prayer warriors going to battle on your behalf.

May you find rest in His presence--Michelle
