#10 In search of coffee

Many of us can't make it very long without a good cup of java. Nashville has those little local shops as well as the most popular chain. If you're like the coffee addict in my family, you probably travel with your own coffee. But just in case you don't you might want to hit up

#5 What to Bring...

Hope you enjoyed your Labor Day weekend! I can hardly believe that we are now just days away from Deeper Still. I know many of us have had this on our calendar for quite sometime. As the vans, buses and cars head for Nashville on Friday, we want to be sure you don't forget the essentials. (these are in no particular order!)

  1. Your ticket! You received a wristband in the mail, and you'll want to be sure to bring it with you. Get that wristband on your RIGHT wrist before you enter the building. We'll be checking those as you enter! Help us spread the word in your group! vl2l5523-small-20070904090110.jpg

God's Word! Our speakers this weekend LOVE God's Word and are passionate about the truth. I'm sure we'll be logging plenty of miles on the pages of Scripture, so don't forget to bring yours!

    vl2l6045-small-20070904090111.jpg

Writing instrument! We don't care what you bring....pen, pencil, crayon, lipstick...just have something to write with. You don't want to miss the truth God has designed for YOU this weekend!

    gv7z8470-1-small-20070904090112.jpg

Notebook! You'll receive a listening guide where you can take notes, but you probably have a special place where you record what the Lord says to you. If so, by all means bring it along.

Patience pants and a smile! For all you extroverts, you have the chance to meet over tons of new friends this weekend! Wear your smile and use your waiting time to get to know other women!

    #4 Should I or Shouldn’t I????

Should I bring a sweater or jacket? Should I stop at this restroom…I don’t really need to go right now!

Big questions….but important things to consider when attending Deeper Still: The Event.

It has been in the triple digits in Nashville…do I really need to take a sweater or jacket? YES! Although you may not need a sweater outside, you never know what the temperatures might be in the Sommet Center, Curb Center, local restaurants, or even your hotel. It is best to layer or carry a light sweater or jacket so you will be comfortable and able to keep your attention and focus on what God wants you to hear and learn during Deeper Still.

And should you stop at the restroom? Come on ladies…of course, the answer is always YES! Take advantage of using the restrooms in your hotel, restaurants, and of course, the Sommet Center and Curb Center. The lines will be long during the breaks but there is usually plenty of time. Don’t be afraid to use the Men’s Restrooms that are converted to Women’s Restrooms during the event. The men know to stay away! And anytime you see a short line…GO FOR IT!

    #3 Staying With Your Group

Is it really possible to stay with my group when it is general admission seating? Yes and no…obviously, the smaller the group the easier the task. Remember, seats are on a first-come first-served basis and there is no saving of seats. If you are coming to Deeper Still with a group of four (or even twenty) you will probably be able to find a section of seats that will accommodate your group. However, the larger the group the more difficult this task becomes.

Here are a few suggestions to consider as you think about seating…

    1. Everyone bring your cell phones and create a list of names and cell phone numbers in advance to distribute to your group. If you end up getting separated, no problem…you can still reconnect.

    2. No Saving Seats! How will we ever sit together?! You may want to form small groups (no more than 10) or a buddy system if you are coming with a large group. This may also work best if you have a large group and some want to run for the floor seats while others prefer staying on the main concourse level avoiding stairs and steps.

    3. It will be fun! These venues have large group events weekly. The personnel are there to help you and serve you. If you have problems finding seats ask someone from the arena to direct you to a section where seats are available.

Remember, it doesn’t matter where you sit because wherever it is…HE saved that seat for you!

    #2 Last Minute Stuff

When does the event begin? When do the doors open? Where did I put my wrist band that came in the mail?

These are a few of the last minute questions as we approach Deeper Still: the Event on Friday, September 7, 2007. Hopefully, we can help ease your mind with these suggestions.

The doors open at 6:00 pm. Deeper Still the Event begins at 7:00.

    gv7z9377-small-20070906101454.jpg

Ladies will begin lining up outside the Sommet and the Curb hours in advance. Remember, it is general admission seating meaning first-come, first-served. (Check out blog post: #3 Staying with Your Group on general admission seating suggestions).

If you choose to wait in line before the doors open remember to bring a water bottle and a snack. It will be hot at this time of day in Nashville. If you are sensitive to the sun or heat, wear a light shirt, sunscreen, hat, or even bring an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun's rays. You might want to bring a book, magazine, game, knitting, or something you enjoy to help pass the time.

    vl2l5502-small-20070906101456.jpg

Wear your "patience" pants and a smile and use this time to meet other women in line. Introduce yourself to other ladies, find out where they are from, and enjoy this time of fellowship with women of God. You never know how God may use this time waiting in line as an opportunity for ministry or developing friendships.

Wear your armband on your right wrist. You should have received an armband in place of a ticket for Deeper Still: The Event. This armband serves as your ticket for both days of Deeper Still. If you lost your armband or have other problems with your armband, go to Will Call. Will Call will open at 5:00 pm Friday.

    vl2l5425-small-20070906101457.jpg

When the doors open at 6:00 pm hold up your right wrist and flash that armband and we'll get this party started!

    Live at the Curb!

    Wow! Wow! Wow!
Here we are liveat the Curb! We just finished our sound check and have been watching things come together at the Sommet. What an absolutely amazing time of preparation. Your prayers are being answered in this very moment sisters! God is here in every detail. He's ever-faithful, ever-present. I cannot wait until you get here. I absolutely can't wait to hear your precious voices singing praises.

Okay, I have to tell you that I got really side-tracked for a minute. I'm inside the Curb arena and I've been listening to and watching the sound check Sommet sound check! The live feed is working! It's absolutely wild! I could see every detail... I am telling you friends, we are going to have the best seats around. Everything is so large and live, you will be BLOWN away.

I've gotta run. I spent too much time checking out Travis and Angela's haircuts while I watched their sound check! You will get here soon! I can't wait!

    No Shackles In the Curb!

There just are no words to describe the volume in this place right now! Mandisa is on stage leading a group of rowdy women in "Shackles"—the Curb Center gals are having a party!

We've experienced an outpouring of God's presence and every woman in this room is soaked! What a night. Wouldn't you agree that God is ending a drought in so many lives tonight, in these very moments?

Girls, I'll be honest. Tonight as I watched you all file into the CURB center, I wondered what our simulcast experience might be... but as the praise team belted out the first song nobody held back.

Curb Ladies: I love your hearts! You were unashamed and grateful in your worship tonight and to be honest, the only word I can think of right now to describe you is pretty. My grandmother always said, "pretty is as pretty does" and tonight as we poured our hearts out to God, it was pretty. Your sweet and open hearts are just downright beautiful. Thank you for coming tonight expecting something of God and I'm so glad you received what He was so ready to give!

Just can't wait to be with you again in the morning!

    Just call me Flash…

Driving home from the Curb Center last night, I realized that unlike Michelle—who has been blogging her heart out since the end of August—I haven’t introduced myself. But for now, you can just call me Flash.

I went to bed last night asking God to show me the areas in my life that I’m resistant to what He wants. I don’t know about you, but I dig my heels in every now and again. And just thinking about Priscilla dragging that donkey reminds me of moments when I‘ve attempted a stand-off with God. Praise God, and for heaven’s sake, thank Him because He’s persistent. He’s kept after me. And girls, I could tell just by some of the expressions on your faces, He’s been pursuing you, too. Last night, so many of you conceded and decided to give in to all the mercy and goodness God’s willing to extend.

I woke up this morning thinking about Flash—Priscilla has her donkey, Beth has her birddogs, and it remains to be heard what kind of animals are running around Kay’s house!

By the way, don’t you just love the way we’re getting to know these mighty women of God who are guiding us through the Word? After watching the intro video last night, don’t you all feel like these three are old friends—girls we’ve known all our lives?

Can’t wait to get to the Curb and experience all that’s in store!

    Blessings, Ladies!

    Curb Center

Live from Curb—God is speaking and moving!

Girls, we just can't ignore Him, can't get away from Him, and Ladies it is such a sweet and precious thing to watch you all respond to God! In your tears, your lifted hands, and your bowed knees, I am moved as I sense God at work among you. His presence is thick in this place and we are a grateful people! And I don't know what else to do in this moment except pray:

We praise You, God, for such a clear and strong word You gave through Beth. Lord, with full hearts we ask, who are we that You have brought us this far? God we praise you for a love that is unmatched and favor that we could never earn. What more could we say to You, God? For Your word's sake, and according to your own heart, You have done great things here among us today. And we wait with great expectation for more from You, God because You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. Father be blessed and lifted high among us today. It is in the mighty name of Jesus that we ask these things. Amen.

    What a Ruckus!

We got an earfull over here at the Curb and what happens at the Curb, stays at the Curb! One things for sure, you can count on Kay, Pricilla and Beth to shoot straight with you! We could have talked all afternoon—thanks, Curb Ladies, for asking all the right questions!

    More About Amoebas...

Let's clear one thing up…just because I referred to all of us as one big amoeba, I did NOT intended to say that we are parasites! No one said anything about this so I think you understood my original intent: as women we love community and unity within the body of believers! This unity and community within the local church and Bible studies helps us grow and develop in our faith and leads us deeper still.

    Love Letters...

Hey gals! Do we love our sweet sisters Kay, Beth, and Priscilla? YES WE DO! I love the way they challenge us to go Deeper Still in God's Word and make us laugh at the same time! I don't know if you realized...Kay had NO IDEA Beth and Priscilla were going to pull this stunt before the panel discussion!

    3 in wheelchairs

The LifeWay Women's Event Team heard your grateful hearts all weekend but there is no way we can pass on all your comments and love. So, we wanted to provide a place where you could post your "love letters" to our three women of God. Let them know they are loved and how much you appreciate their obedience and faithfulness to God.

We love you Kay, Beth, and Priscilla! Thanks for your love and laughter!

    Chew on it...

I am so grateful for the opportunity God gave me to be a part of Deeper Still Nashville! WOW- He really blew me away through the teaching of His Word by all three ladies-the "rhema" was powerful…

The challenge we now face is how to process the almost overwhelming amount of great stuff we took in. Have you ever taken a bite of your favorite food and realized that you were going to have to concentrate and chew on it a while before swallowing it so you didn't miss any of the great flavor or taste? That's sort of the way I feel about this weekend-there is no way I can just swallow it whole…I need to break it down and chew on it piece by piece till I can take in the truths and let them change my life.

So in order to do that,

    The Truth About Sex

    Greetings sisters!
I hope that you were just as blessed at the Deeper Still Event this weekend as Miss Beth, Miss Kay and I were. It was a THRILL to be with you and spend time together in God's word.
If you stayed until the end on Saturday then you got to be a part of the question and answer session. Needless to say, we had so much fun and laughed so hard that our sides hurt. I had hand prints on my knees from slapping them so hard. The three of us never know what we are going to say or how that part of the event will turn out so we were SOOOO surprised by the unexpected surge of laughter and hilarity that erupted during that time. It was a BLAST.

You'll recall, one of the questions was about how to make marriage work more smoothly; specifically, how to get our husbands to speak our love language. After Miss Kay gave such a Biblically sound answer (as only she can) we began joking about how much sex plays a roll in this as well. We jokingly suggested that

    Reflections...Session One with Priscilla

Honestly, there is no way I can give you a quick summary of the word God brought through Priscilla on Friday night of Deeper Still: The Event. Even if I typed in word for word the message that came from her lips, there is no way to repeat the anointed word from God spoken on Friday night.

    MG 0011

Priscilla began by explaining that we all had come ready to hear a word from God. She went further by defining the meaning of the Greek word rhema. The RHEMA, word from God, is when God speaks directly to you as you apply the Bible's teaching to a specific subject in your life. When God takes something general and makes it specific to you.

    Reflections...Session Two with Beth

"The Word of God is for Life!" is one of the statements Beth made early on in her session…and she truly lives this out in her own life. In the few years I've been on the LifeWay Women's Event Team I've never heard Beth speak on the same thing in the same way. She asks God for a fresh word for each audience and in His faithfulness a fresh word He gives.

    Beth in audience

Beth claimed 1 Thessalonians 2:8 from Beth, Kay, and Priscilla to the women at Deeper Still…
"We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us." (1 Thess. 2:8 HCSB)

    Reflections...Session Three with Kay

Kay began by asking the crowd of women if their Christianity lacked zeal. Have you become stressed? Weary? Is your guard down? Do you find yourself tempted in certain areas? Tempted to indulge the flesh? Do you feel overwhelmed? Are you experiencing trials that you never dreamed of-thought you would never go through? Are you disappointed? If so, as believers we need to get to the place where we say, "God, I am going to walk in the light of all that I know about You."

"We are at a crossroads. We have heard from God. We have worshiped God. You have come not for entertainment but because of a desire to go deeper still. You want something from God and it is not going to be fluff. You are at a crossroads. You, ladies, are our greatest concern. This is a heavy message that will lift the weight off of you if you will follow through all the way."

Reflections...Kay, Beth, and Priscilla Could Host A Talk Show!

In the Deeper Still Listening Guide the schedule says "Panel Discussion" but this Saturday afternoon session had all the laughter and banter of a talk show. Women were asked to submit questions for the panel on our Deeper Still blog and I think we ended up with four or five (or was it six) pages of questions! There was no way to answer all the questions in the time frame allowed. However, Kay, Beth, and Priscilla gave us a good sampling of the questions from "What is your favorite lipstick color?" to "How do you balance life and ministry?" Reflected are a few of the highlights!

Praying for God to TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE

Hey sisters! One week from today we will be in the midst of Deeper Still!

As I prayed for you this morning, I prayed for our eight sweet mommies coming to Atlanta who have all lost babies in the last year. They are meeting face-to-face for the first time in Atlanta at Deeper Still. I prayed for the IMB, International Mission Board, missionary who is stateside from Russia while her young son receives medical treatment. By God's divine appointment, she is able to come to Deeper Still: The Event in Atlanta. I prayed for my new blog friend, Katie, who asks the best questions! I've prayed for so many of you by name this morning and continue to pray that God uses your time with Him at Deeper Still to transform your life.

I asked several of my friends to share about their Deeper Still experiences last year. My "little sister" Alicia, who works with Student Events and Camps at LifeWay, attended Deeper Still in Nashville at the simulcast location on the campus of Belmont University.

    This is what Alicia wrote...

I was just thinking about my experience last fall at the Deeper Still Event in Nashville. My mom came up for a mother daughter weekend and as I recall, we managed to cram shopping, eating, pedicures, movies and several trips to Starbucks into the days leading up to the event. We were well caffeinated and looking good as we rolled into the parking lot of the Curb Center on the campus of Belmont University (the satellite location for the sold out event).

As much as I love those memories, I have to smile when I think about what made that particular weekend so special to me. Sitting next to my mom with Bibles resting in our laps, I remember thinking how familiar that felt to me...to see my mom with the Word in her hands; the sound of pages flipping back and forth; the look of peace falling across the face of a woman who had built her life on the Truth of those words. What a gift to stand and worship next to the one who prayed me through my growing pains and helped me discover my value as a child of God.

All those years of watching my mom handle the weight of the world with such grace...though I didn't fully appreciate the lessons she was teaching me at the time, I realize today how much of me has been shaped by the character of Christ I've seen in her. Because my mom and I are different in many ways (I got my naïve optimism, independent nature and flare for adventure from my dad), its taken years for me to recognize all the incredible things I admire about her. The time we spent together that weekend (and on so many other occasions) challenged me to go deeper still.

Mom, if you happen stumble upon this blog (since you are now so computer savvy), let me say THANK YOU for living out your faith, for showing me what the life of a prayer warrior looks like, for leading me but still letting me discover the journey for myself. Thank you for showing me how to trust God even when I don't understand my circumstances. Thank you for teaching me the beauty of moments spent in the powerful presence of our Savior.

    Alicia

I've watched as God continues year by year to transform Alicia's life as she goes deeper still with Him. Praying He does the same thing in your life through Deeper Still: The Event in Atlanta and by the example and mentoring of other incredible Christians He places in your life throughout the years.

Blessings to you sisters, on this last weekend before Deeper Still. Know that I (and many others) are praying for you.
