Today, I speak at the PCPA meeting at the United Methodist Publishing House, unfortunately abbreviated UMPH.
UMPH owns Abingdon Press which publishes at least three of my friends: Lyle Schaller, Bob Whitesel, and Bill Easum.
I will be present our recent research on young church dropouts. If you are new to the blog, you can read more about it here.
The PCPA website explains, "In 1951, PCPA was incorporated with the intent to be devoted to the welfare of the official Church-owned publishing houses in fulfilling their functions as church service agencies."
I have promised those who invited me that I will put a little umph into my presentaiton. (I tried not to make the bad joke, but could not resist.)

Ed,
I have look over the research on dropouts with great detail and I want to make sure that an observation I have made is a correct one based on the research results. It seems the deeper the teenagers are involved in the ministries of the church the more likely they are to stay. I concluded from the study that those who gave consistantly increased the stay rate to 34%. Those who were invovled in service projects increased the stay rate to 35%. Those who went on a mission trip increased the stay rate to 37%. I wanted to see in the research would conclude that the deeper and more meaningful the involvment increases the liklihood of staying. Thanks for your time.
