New Blog Look

Wednesday October 7, 2009   ~   22 Comments

Today, we are making a switch over to the new blog structure.

We will be tweaking the look and content over the next couple of days. All of the audio and video will be up soon, but that is not ready quite yet.

Let us know what you think. Is anything not working on your browser, even a really bad one like Internet Explorer?

Thanks.

Perhaps consider moving the Search box to a place higher up on the right side? Search is so essential, and making it easy to find may be helpful to readers.

I like the little notes with the tacks in them... neat theme!

Love the new layout. It is easy to scan for material. Like the blog content in the middle. I do wonder if the social networking icons in the title are a bit big. The Youtube right next to you makes you look like you are selling a Ronco Bass-a-matic. But again, the layout is great and the content super. Thank you for the investment you have made in communicating a worthwhile message. Just my thoughts. archie

A sleeker blog look for a trimmer, sleeker Ed Stetzer.

I know you guys are tweaking - the bluish purple url links are quite difficult to read on the grey background. Maybe i've had too much coffee, but it requires a lot of concentration.

Looks good, but the font you are using for "Ed Stetzer The LifeWay Research Blog" looks incredibly cheesy compared to the good looking stuff everywhere else.

the site looks fresh and robust. i agree about the search box, it took me a minute to find it. should be placed somewhere on top.

and can i just say that it's too yellow? lol

Ed--Overall, I think you've made a strong upgrade. The book covers in the background might be a bit too big, but in terms of the left, central, and right navs, the design is strong. The social media buttons at the top are also very effective.

One suggestion: Record a short video welcome that plays when visitors scroll over the image of you in the flag.

Best,

Matt

I like it overall Ed! Great update. I agree with Jon though that the search should be moved up toward the top. Because you research a lot, I look for info on specific topics. It's nice to have the search right at the top so I can get to what I need. Thanks!

I really like it. Easy to navigate with lots of great links. I concur with those who suggested the search box move. Great work!

Yup looks great...I'd just suggest moving the search box up.

nice. the picture looks good. much more indicative of the new you. layout is much more conducive to finding specific information. much simpler and more conversational. looks good.

an earlier comment mentioned notes with little tacks. i don't see any of those. maybe firefox?

as well, some of the post title bars are printing text on top of text (i.e. i clicked on the international missions heading on the left side of the page. the new page pulled up and the date/comment# posted on top of the title. i tried it several times and it continued to do that).

one question- have you written any books?

Everything is working on internet explorer out in Denver, CO. Looks great!

Ed, I think it looks great. I would leave the search box where it is. Info is easily located.

Ed

Love it , Its nice to see the new you , we miss you at FBCH , but Bruce is doing a Wonderful job , Hope to see again soon.

Nice look . . . Really visual. AN improvement, for sure.

Lovin' the new blog design, Ed. Simple, yet elegant. Good stuff!

Is this a wordpress platform? your source page says movable type. Don't know much about that platform and available plugins but WP has a nice iphone plugin that will speed up iphone users experience when they hit your page.

And consider using more optimized headings/titles for SEO. These are the most important parts for google search.

There is an All-in-One-SEO plugin for wordpress that makes this very easy. maybe MT has something similar.

Maybe put your "most popular" box at the top where most recent is, or right underneath most recent. And/or add a "Must read" category. Basically telling new readers what your BEST content is. And keeps your best content up front and not buried in archives.

You look great. But the picture could be better and more inviting. I enjoyed your old image because it felt warm and inviting. this one looks like a salesman selling his books :-)

I'm getting a mixture of both the old and new blog on google's chrome web browser. Weird.

Rodney, a few. ;-)

Thanks to all for the helpful input!

Ed

Does not look good on Chrome. Can't read what is on the sidebars. May be Chrome's issue.

I'm using Safari and getting the dates on top of the titles too.

A print style sheet would be great, so that print would result in just the contents of the post and not all the global and side navigation.
