And so the Christmas wish list continues...
Last Tuesday I started a "top Christmas gifts for teens" list with some pretty amazing items. And some...well, not so amazing. Actually, most of the gift ideas last Tuesday made me laugh more than fill me with a desire to purchase them. However, it was so fun I thought it was only appropriate to continue (and conclude aren't you glad) the list this week! So, here are more fun Christmas ideas for those girls in your girls' ministry. And these actually might be some of the things your girls are asking for this Christmas.
Now I really did think this was awesome...it is a "time squared clock." Unique, trendy and actually fairly easy to read. I can see it sitting on a bathroom counter. It looks like you would be able to put some earrings or small jewelry in the squares...or maybe small containers of makeup. And the girls can watch the clock as they are getting ready for school or whatever so they are not late...well, we can hope.
Here is something that looks fun and would truly make a great gift...it is a laptop sling bag. They come in multiple colors and patterns and really are a useable, practical gift for teenage girls (or girls' ministry leaders)! Don't you want one for yourself? How fun is that?!
The earphones inside or connected to the hoodie is supposed to be a hot gift item this year. I'm not sure how I feel about this...I mean can you ever wash the hoodie? How well do these really work? I just remember the nightmares I've had when a regular hoodie drawstring gets caught up inside the material. You try to have those knots tied on the end so it won't happen, but inevitably the hoodie comes out of the washer or dryer at some point and the drawstrings are gone. They've been sucked up into the hoodie. And boy are you lucky if you ever get those drawstrings back out of that hemline and in proper working condition. I already spend too much time in the laundry room. I'm crossing this one off the list.

Of course, there are always the standard gift ideas for teen girls such as tickets to their favorite sports team, movie passes, gift cards, clothes or make-up - maybe not as creative, but truly something they will like and use.
Personally, there is the route I'm taking with my girls and everyone else. If they can't really use it, I'm not buying it. I don't want to sound like Scrooge, but after reading Crazy Love and Radical this year (and my Bible) I want to make a difference and change lives including my own. I want those changes in my life to impact others. And I want my girls to see the value of "only" getting a mission trip for Christmas and the difference it makes in their lives and the lives of others. Sometimes that one gift will make a greater impact than all the little trinkets and toys that will be forgotten two years from now.
How is your gift shopping going? How intentional are you in the purchasing of those gifts?
There are so many great gifts out there. The more you look, the more you find. In our culture we always seem to have more than we could ever use or need. I have to admit that some of these gift ideas are so fun...but do we really need more donuts or the donut maker?
