Seriously. I have fashion issues.

Sophie and I are getting ready to go to North Carolina this week for the She Speaks Conference. We're teaching two sessions on blogging, along with Shannon from Rocks in My Dryer.
And I am playing fast and loose with the word "teaching".
Here's hoping that I have more to say than "A blog is like an online journal. It is cool."
Anyway, I'm headed to North Carolina this weekend and then to Deeper Still in Atlanta the following weekend.
Look at me! I'M A JETSETTER.
A jetsetter who will have to shell out $9.00 to get a 1/4 cup of Diet Coke and a bag of mediocre trailmix on my flights.
Needless to say, I have had to spend some time in deep prayer and meditation over my wardrobe for these events. In fact, I think Caroline now thinks her daily routine looks like this.
7:00 a.m. - Wake up and immediately demand an episode of "Pinky-Dinky Doo"
8:00 a.m. - Continue to harass mama until she finally gives in and drags herself out of bed
8:03 a.m. - Request a breakfast of eggs, bacon and waffles.
8:26 a.m. - Eat two bites of egg and dip fingers in syrup then declare that you're done with breakfast.
8:35 a.m. - Put on orange skirt that has become a wardrobe staple and makes your mama cringe because it is a really nice orange skirt that is meant for special occasions, not fingerpaint day at Vacation Bible School.
9-12:00 p.m. - Vacation Bible School. Get hyped up on generic Nilla Wafers and HEB brand orange drink. (Not orange juice. Orange drink.)
12:30-2:30 p.m. - Watch your mama try on at least ten different outfits with various shoe and jewelry combinations. Offer helpful advice such as "That one is TOO YELLOW".
3:00-6:00 p.m. - Go to pool. Try to drown Mama by making her go with you to the bottom of the deep end 842 times in a three-hour period.
6:00-7:30 p.m. - Eat dinner comprised of dinosaur shaped chicken. Bath. Brush teeth. Spend fifteen minutes picking out two books while your mama tries to avoid the urge to stab herself with a Polly Pocket. Bed.
7:31-9:00 p.m. - Mama continues to mentally pack her suitcase for trips to North Carolina and Atlanta. Vows she will not have to pay an overage charge for overpacking.
Clearly my days are jam-packed right now, what with all the accessory planning and thinking about carry-on luggage versus checked bags. It's a wonder I can get anything else done.
And really, I have no point. Well, other than to share my obsessive-compulsive wardrobe tendencies.
I have always been this way. In fact, I can honestly remember each outfit I wore on the first day of school for grades K-12. And that's not all. I also have vivid memories of any other outfits along the way that were particularly fabulous for one reason or another.
For example, in 9th grade my favorite outfit was a hot pink t-shirt and my Guess overalls with a vintage scarf tied around my waist as a belt. Throw in some hot pink socks and white Keds and it was quite the outfit.
Sometimes I would even use the scarf to tie back my permed hair instead of as a belt.
Oh yes I did.
And I can't really even discuss my red plaid UltraPink skirt and shirt that I wore with my Esprit hiking boots because I will get all misty-eyed at the memories of my deep love for that outfit and all the good times we had.
I could go on and on, but that would just be embarrassing. Plus, it may seriously cause y'all to wonder if I have any sort of life.
So, here's what I really want to know. Who's going to be at Deeper Still in Atlanta?
Most importantly, what are you wearing?
And even if you're not going, tell me about one of your favorite outfits of all time.

Um, Caroline’s day sounds pretty darn fabulous. How can I get in on that?!

Good luck not paying that overage charge!
Oh how I wish I were going to either of those conferences…or BOTH…now that sounds like fun!
I guess I could dream and plan what I could PRETEND to wear…that sounds fun. And productive.
I always look fabulous in my dreams.

I wish someone would cook my dinosaur chicken nuggets for me because I am just SICK of turning on the toaster oven for myself.
As far as fashion, I am loving my black leggings right now. I have this sweet little yellow dress that I pair with them… and then there’s that blue shirt I wear with them… and then the pink one…
I really love my leggings. Please don’t ever tell me they’re going out of style again. I don’t want to know the truth.

WHAT?!? Can you seriously ask what we’ll be wearing? Did you not just say that over 3,000 christian women will be meeting together? Of course, the sanctified capri pant will be the dress of choice!

I’ll be seeing you at She Speaks, but sadly not at Deeper Still. I’m having wardrobe issues of my own. I finally decided that most of the stuff in my closet was way too old and un-stylish to wear, so off it went to Goodwill. My closet is fairly devoid now of “business casual” choices, so when I should be polishing my book proposal, I’m shopping for a cute outfit instead!
Favorite outfit? I’ve never been much on fashion, so I can’t say that I ever had one, other than the dress I wore constantly when I was about 4….

One of my favorite outfits was a denim minskirt worn with a pink striped t-shirt that was worn over another plain white t-shirt, with the sleeves rolled up, complete with shoulder pads. I wore it with the coordinated pink belt, white Reebok hi-tops with pink scrunched up socks.
If you see Beth Moore, you have to tell us what she was wearing.

That is so funny! Your day sounds something like mine! Kids are so demanding and take up so much of our time - I’m so glad they are worth every bit of it! Thanks for giving me such a laugh today.
One of the things I remember wearing is parachute pants! Hideous!

Not attending either of those events, though I am going to LPL in SA in August.
Favorite outfits…let’s see…both of these are circa 1986-1987…
Guess overalls and a white shirt with a large ruffled collar, white woven flats.
Oh, and a pale pink shirt with blue paisleys, a pink deep v-neck fisherman-knit Limited sweater, and pale pink Limited pleated pants with pale pink loafers and silver beaded necklace & earrings. I was so into the Pretty in Pink thing!

I am so going to Deeper Still. I have no idea what I am wearing — I will be looking for something come next Thursday.

Not making it to either conferecne….have a blast though. I have fond memories of my green/white striped belted dress over white pants. It’s so memorable because it was the first time that I was allowed to wear pants to church….’cuz it really was a dress. Oh, the memories!!

Oh, I’m jealous of those of you who are going to Deeper Still in the ATL. I’m going to San Antonio in Aug, so my jealousy issues are fairly mild. As for my favorite outfit ever, it would TOTALLY be my Guess denim mini skirt, my neon pink/yellow tie-died shirt, my neon scrunch down socks to match and my paisley TreTorns. I had 2 spiral perms in my hair (really thick and very long) and used “Stiff Stuff” hair spray to make my bangs stand up just-so and remain there all day. All of this was in my 8th grade year - which was 1989. Awesome.
You know you had TreTorns. Don’t deny it. They’re back, by the way. You can wear them again today if you’d like.

My flashback fashion memory is a pink pleather mini skirt worn with a dotted swiss & pink flowers white blouse with french cuffs! My two best friends bought the same outfit. We thought we were an all girl “Mod Squad” (now I’m giving away my age) and had designated days to wear the outfit. I too have vivid memories of other outfits, the occasion I wore them and how I felt about them. Must be why i’m such a push over when it comes to my 16 year old’s wardrobe. That, and we wear the same size shoe! Don’t get me started there….

Won’t be seeing you at either…thought about attending Deeper Still, but decided on the Siesta Fiesta instead. Hope you have a wonderful week though. I honestly don’t remember clothes, but, of course I don’t have the fashion sense that you do. I don’t tend to do accessories either. You could do a makeover on me though…how about it? Oh the fun. I do have a friend who is quite a bit younger than me who helps me with my wardrobe. She and my 12yo daughter are my “stylists” and you can sure tell a difference when they have dressed me :)

I am so excited to be attending Deeper Still…and of course, capri’s with sandals will be the attire of choice. As you know, it is a staple here in Texas.
Would love to hear you, Sophie and Shannon at She Speaks…but I had to take a break from being the jetsetter for at least one weekend this summer! :-)

My favorite outfit?? I don’t remember the shirt, but I definately remember as a junior and senior I wore a pair of WHITE PAINTERS pants, that were probably half a size too small for me. Omg I LOVED those pants!!! and according to my then boyfriend, now dh that made my b*tt look great!!
Hope the wardrobe works out for both trips.

Melanie…
My, My, that whole hot pink shirt with Guess overalls and Keds really takes me back. I can just see it. My daughter is fascinated by the 80s.
My favorite high school outfit was always OVERSIZED. I was average height and weight, but really kind of leggy. I had to get my own job to buy cool stuff because my mother had to save at least half our clothes budget to buy herself jewelry… (Not really, but she did do a lot of penny pinching at SEARS… who in High School still shops at SEARS…)
My mom’s best friend opened a clothing shop and took my mother to the fashion “fair” or whatever it was in Atlanta (Which at that time must have been the Clothing Capital of the World)where they got to buy a whole lot of clothes wholesale while Carolyn ordered clothing for her shop.
At Carolyn’s Shop I discovered and fell in love with GASOLINE Jeans… now let me tell you they were H-O-T… they were not called Gasoline for nothing. I would wear ‘em three times a week… and I only had two pairs. My first favorite were this black pair with plaid fabric sewn from hip to ankle in the front. I tipped my dark brown hair blonde and became some what “PUNK…” Don’t ask me about my hair, cause in High School I definitely had hair issues.
I loved those jeans and tearfully gave them up after they developed holes in the plaid fabric. Too many to wear with discretion of course.
My other pair were so wonderful just plain old blue jeans you know, but my friend borrowed them and broke the zipper and they were never the same again. We once got in an argument in public while she was wearing my beloved jeans and my sarcastic remark was “Why don’t you just take off my jeans?”
Thank the Lord she didn’t. I also had this very stylish oversized (Tuxedo style) white dress shirt that was all embroidered with delicate flowers. It was stunning… I wore it with a black sweater over it, some chunky jewelry and my blue Gasoline Jeans along with a Black pair of Converse High Top shoes before they were the coolest… So, perhaps I was a trendsetter or just different. A little Molly Ringwald in “Pretty in Pink.”
Now, I scavenge clearance racks at the trendier stores looking for treasure and buy all my fabulous jewelry at Target. And if it is clearance it is better…
And hair, this past weekend I colored my hair four times in two days and IT SURVIVED! Woo Hoo! Now, let’s talk shoes! Blessings.

Oh, my daughter and I have her first day of kindergarten outfit picked out- it’s not till Aug. 7! Atleast we’re ready. We need to be praying for her future husband!
I hate to miss Deeper Still this year. Went to Nashville last year- I wore gauchos- not capris! This year I am loving cute dresses that can go with flip flops or wedges, depending on my mood. I also got a fabulous denim blazer from Talbot’s that is great in cool buildings. (Talbot’s is having a fabulous summer sale right now!)

Hey… don’t knock the VBS snacks. They are a standard… a tradition, if you will.
Favorite outfit… with it being 200 degrees outside right now, I’m liking my tank and shorts.

I’m so sad that I don’t get to plan my outfits for Deeper Still. We have 4 tickets available if anyone needs them (stasiafl@aol.com). My SIL is going to deliver her baby just before we leave, and my mom (the radiant woman she is) doesn’t feel right about leaving her just when she’ll be getting home from the hospital. My mom was fantastic helping me during my first weeks of motherhood, so I can’t get too upset. Maybe another girls’ weekend, right?

hand raised!! i’m going to deeper still and my outfit will be determined by what is clean 10 minutes before i have to leave on friday afternoon :) probably black pants, flip flops or sandals and a tee with a cardigan since it always seems to get cold during those huge stadium events.

I wish I were going to one of your fancy conferences… alas, I am suffering a Fashion Crisis(tm) of my own. Can you help?
I just went to work for a company that is located entirely in Asia (Taiwan, to be exact). In early July, I leave to spend two weeks getting to know my new co-workers and the product line.
Sounds fabulous, right? Except I’ve never been to Asia, I have the fashion sense of an engineer because I am one, and I don’t want luggage overweight charges either. Any suggestions, Oh Fashion Guru BigMama? I’ll bring you something cool from Taiwan if you help me! ;-)
To make things slightly eaiser, I did just buy a lot of wardrobe staples to start the job — including your recommendations of black pants and a great pair of trouser jeans. So I’m not quite ready for “What Not To Wear” just yet; I’m just mostly clueless.

I am coming, and I can not wait! I will be driving 6 hours to the conference, so I am thinking - something uncomfortable. Kidding, I can not forsake my love for the capri pant, the short-sleeved, long length shirt with the scoop neckline, and the cutest pair of sandals/wedges I can find at TJ Maxx this week. Other than that, The rest of the weekend is still out there somewhere, waiting to be assembled!

I’m coming to Deeper Still with the girls in my family. I’ve got some BLACK knit pants and a very lightweight sweater to wear over a tank. And I’ll probably wear a pair of backless low heels with them. I wish I were coming to San Antonio for the Siesta Fiesta but I just couldn’t take the time from work. I am really looking forward to Atlanta…and I’ll be staying in a hotel right by the GA Aquarium. Can’t wait for my blessing from this event.
