Thirty one days and counting

Sophie - July 21, 2008

Several months ago I discovered that a bunch of women who read Beth Moore's blog were planning attend Living Proof Live in San Antonio on August 22-23 so that our little online community could enjoy some real-live fellowship together.

And since I tend to err on the side of obsessively relational, I thought that meeting bloggy friends in person sounded like more fun than a bucket of fried chicken. I talked to my husband, decided to make the trip, and then I hopped on the computer (OH, NOT LITERALLY, SILLY) and bought me a Living Proof ticket, oh yes I did.

Even though I live in Alabama. And the event is, you know, in Texas.

At the time I had no idea how I was going to get to San Antonio or where I was going to stay, but I knew that I wanted to be there. And in the months since I bought that ticket, God has provided some mighty unexpected solutions to all those pesky travel details. Now I have a plane ticket, a hotel room, and a tour guide extraordinaire in the form of my sweet friend Melanie. I cannot WAIT.

Because, you see, I picture San Antonio as a magical place where complimentary tortilla chips are available on every street corner and a never-ending stream of queso dip flows from the city's fountains.

I also imagine that the salsa there is so good that it will make me weep - and not just because of some potent habanero peppers, mind you.

All that to say: I really want to encourage you to join us in San Antonio if you can. Tickets are still available, and I can promise you that after God moves through Travis' praise and worship and Beth's teaching, your heart will be nineteen kinds of full when the event is over Saturday afternoon.

Odds are that your belly will be full, too - but for entirely different reasons (see: aforementioned tortilla chips and fountains-o-queso).

So if you're planning to be in San Antonio for LPL, will you let us know in the comments? Melanie and I would love to meet you and hug your neck in person.

That is all.

Except that I'm totally craving some Mexican food now.

Adios.

Sophie - My mom, my oldest sister, and myself will all be in San Antonio and we are counting down the days!! We are so excited - to meet all the Siestas, to hear Travis, to learn through Beth’s teaching, and especially, to spend time with one another praising God. What a blessing!!

I’ll be there. I’ll be the oldest person in the room, in all likelihood, but I will be there.

Larae (Li'l Rae):

Sophie - I can’t come this year because that is the weekend before school starts here in our corner of Texas. Maybe next year if there is another “Siesta Fiesta”. Hope y’all have an awesome time and you will love San Antonio! It is one of our favorite places to visit. (SA is where my 13 year old wants to go for our next Mother/Daughter weekend away, that is how much we love it!) Don’t remember there being fountains-o-queso unfortunately, but the food is definitely oh so delicioso! Have a grand time praising God through music with Travis AND obtaining a WORD from Beth AND meeting so many bloggy friends! I will be praying for y’all!

Sophie, you’re just about on target with your dreams of complimentary tortilla chips available on every street corner and a never-ending stream of queso dip…only it flows in the San Antonio River! ;) Of course, we now omit the fresh jalapenos.

I’m so there (at LPL), and I’m so excited I could spit! My mama is coming with me. Can’t wait!

Jennifer:

We have a group of 12 (with more adding all the time) making a weekend of it. Two are coming all the way from northern California to join in the fun!!! We are so excited to enter The Throne Room with Travis and to have God anoint us with His Word through Beth. We have a spa day planned following the conference so we will miss the Siesta get together…what fun you all will have!

God has been so good to provide us one another to love on and we look forward to sharing that time with all the women coming from far and wide!!!

Oh SOPHIE! I’m so excited that the Boo and the Big Mama are joining us in San Antonio for the Siesta Blogfest! YIPPEE! Did you manager to register at Beth’s blog as well for the Siesta part! Oh I hope so… I was planning to take my laptop to do some live blogging over the weekend.

I am either taking a train or a bus to San Antonio… I think God is testing my perseverence genes because I have had (and count them) 7 potential roommates for my hotel room and now we are down to three including myself! I also had a ride down which is absolutely necessary to my plans…

Now, I am sorting out whether my daughter is going to make the trip with me to visit a friend she met at youth camp this summer… Oh the Saga continues.

When I found out train and bus tickets ring in at under $80 round trip - I was in like Flynn. I am so excited about my oddysey to San Antonio that I just can’t stand myself!

See you in our Great State in August! God Bless!

Emmy:

Oh I can’t wait! : )

I’m there, baby.

Oh, I’m there.

My only problem is that I’m having trouble sleeping at night while I ponder the one very big question: whom shall I hug first? Will it be Annie? Melanie? Sophie? Cindy? Gayle? Amanda? DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM I AM FACED WITH?!?

Obviously the only solution is to hug myself first when I arrive.

Fran:

So there. Can’t wait. Will cry. Will scream. Its gonna be the coolest thing I’ve ever done maybe. Well, except marriage and the childbirth thing. ;)

Hugs, Fran

Oh, I am so there! I can’t wait to meet everyone.

Amy:

Oh, yes ma’am, we are SO going to be there! It’s going to be such a blast! My mom, sister and I are making it a girl’s weekend of renewal! So fun!

I will be there with a very dear friend and we are so excited. No lie, I was JUST wondering if you were going to be there-I knew Melanie was. Then I click over here and get my answer! Yea! Can’t wait and I hope I get to meet you and hear your beautiful southern accent in person!

Joni:

I am SOO gonna be there. I’m coming from Georgia with Emmy, Wendy and Mandy.

Oh, I hope I don’t whip out the ugly cry when we all get to meet.

“Lord, please spare my make-up. Amen.”

Lynn:

It didn’t work out for me to be there at the first (hopefully annual) Siesta Fiesta. I am totaly bummed but know that it must be Lord’s will for me at this time. I will be praying like crazy for all by beloved Siestas gathered in San Antonio. Remember to pray for us that had to stay home, too!

Blessings, Sister Lynn

I’ll be there from Colorado with Kate (Kathryn Stoker) and Joanne (The Simple Wife).

I really am looking forward to meeting you, Sophie! It will be so fun to meet everyone.

I will be the one with all the cookbooks :) Love, Holly

I am so glad that you are coming to my neck of the woods! I live just a little north of beautiful SA. I bought my ticket months ago and am so excited that the event has become one where we will get to meet fellow bloggers. You were such a help to me when I first started blogging - giving me tips and bailing me out when I was a bit “stuck”. I hope we get a chance to meet Sophie.

Traci:

I will be there!! My friend Theresa and I will be there! We are from Alabama too! Hope to get to meet you!

Sigh…

I hate these reminders. I wish I could go. If only it weren’t a 24 hour drive away, it might be possible…

Sigh…

I surely do hope there’s another Siesta Fiesta soon in another location!

I’ve got the plane ticket and the hotel reservation and my Must Meet list. Now I just have one more important detail to take care of..

What in the world am I going to wear?

I’ve totally been looking at People.com to see how the stars dress on airplanes. Somehow, I don’t think showing up at the Fiesta with something that says “Juicy” on my tail will be appropriate.

Oh yeah, I’m looking forward to the Bible teaching, too. I’ve heard that Beth girl can BRING IT.

Lisa@Preacher’s Wife… oh my! I laughed out loud when I read that “Juicy” comment.

Loving this totally!

Blessings.

Oh, yes, ma’am. You’ll find me at Karam’s, eating a puffy taco. Any and all siestas are welcome to join me. :)

Oh, and I just wouldn’t actually eat the queso that’s flowing in the fountains. You know how people are… they throw pennies and play in the fountains… it’s really not sanitary.

Welcome to the great state!

  • Donna (Way More Homemade) in TX

Hey there! I will see you in SA! I am also quite excited by all the mexican food…actually its just the chips and salsa that I care about. Oh, and the diet coke over heavy ice :) Oh, and the meeting with all the siestas! (have you ever noticed that I can’t seem to comment without a smiley face in there somewhere? Could be some sort of nonsmiling phobia or such)

Cathy Davis:

Another Alabamaian!! (I probably knew this, but still it surprises me :-).)

I can’t wait to meet folks - I’m glad we’re all sitting together so maybe I’ll actually talk to someone. I just know that coming by myself is going to make me shy.

I’m so there with two of my bestest buddies from the great state of ALABAMA - doesn’t that make you want to break out in “Sweet Home Alabama?!” AND it is actually 28 days now until we arrive on Thursday. Can’t wait to hug your neck and Melanie’s neck and all my siestas necks and hear some great Bible teaching from Beth and amazing music from Travis and praise team. What a wonderful reunion this will be. I also vote for the fountains of queso. Whoo hoo!!!! Can’t believe I get to meet Big Mama and Boo Mama. I loved your talk sessions with Travis on your blog. Soooooo funny! See you soon! Dianne

Sophie I hope you have a blast! Represent all of us Alabama siestas who would just love to go but can’t for whatever reason.

God bless and have a safe trip!

Heidi in Austin:

I am surprised at how many mom & sis combo’s there are! I am so excited to come on down and meet all of you girls! So many blogs, so little time…

SHarron:

WOW. I can’t wait. My two siestas are coming from Alabama also. I can’t wait to meet you! We listend to an audio “blog” of sorts with you , Melanie and Travis sometime back. I laughed my head off…….I am sure God has such a sense of humor as well!

Hey, we had Mexican for lunch and I am hungry again, for goodness sake! Fountain of salsa sounds great to me! Chips on every corner———yum, yum!

I look so forward to meeting you !

Blessings!

I’m coming! It will be so exciting being there! I had passed on this trip since I went to Deeper Still…but GeorgiaJan and I are coming together. She’s so much fun! It feels like a family reunion!

Me and my Beth are marking the days. We had a great time in San Antonio last year for SBC and during the NBA championship. The city is gorgeous, food divine and the people so kind. Looking forward to study, praise, worship and fellowship with all my Siesta’s!

Blessings! Tammy

Oh Yes I will be there!!! And can not wait!!

Blessings! steph.

I really want to go…mainly so I can meet my dear Amy Beth up there, even though we live 2 hours apart it would make sense for us to meet in San Antonio…but alas, I am 27 weeks pregnant and I think they frown on getting on a plane at that point.

So, no. Sad. :(

PHH:

It’s going to be an awesome experience! I am coming with a group of 20 women from Alabama. We’re looking forward to meeting y’all!

I’m SO there! I can’t wait to meet and laugh with and hug and give high fives to all the peeps I’ve met on here!

And I’m right there with ya on the queso and salsa. Bring it on.

Lora:

It’s to early to pack my bags or put my flip flops by the door But, I’m soo excited to meet Siestas and hear Mama Beth Moore I’m just jump up and down excited To think about the Siestas being united!

For His Name

Beverly:

I’ll be there with my two great friends, Kathy and Angela. I really do hope I get to meet you and Melanie, Sophie. I just love both your blogs and feel like I know you already!

Lavonda:

I’ll be there! took a huge step of faith… bought a plane ticket. booked a hotel room. cannot afford it, but I’m trusting God to work out the details. It’s my birthday weekend, and my husband will be out of town with work, my children will be with their dad (his weekend on the calendar), so rather than be home alone, I’m heading to San Antonio! wooo hooo!! I can’t wait to meet you all!

I am SO THERE!! Woo Hoo!! Cannot wait to hug everyone’s neck. Like seriously!!
