Girl talk
Sophie - November 7, 2008
Last night at Bible study we watched the Bonus Session on the Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed DVD. The bonus stuff is from a Q&A session that Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer and Kay Arthur did at the end of Deeper Still Nashville, and it. is. hysterical. I rolled laughing when I was at the conference in Nashville back in 2007, and I rolled laughing in my Bible study leader's den last night. So, so funny. Girl talk at its finest.
On the way home from Bible study I was thinking about the joy of fellowship with other women. I'm one of those people who loves nothing more than a weekend with my girlfriends - the whole experience is like Happy Overload for me. I love making tons of super-unhealthy appetizers (CREAM CHEESE, ANYONE?), having a refrigerator that's stocked with countless cans of diet Coke, putting on my comfiest pajamas, and then settling in for a night of laughing until I hurt.
MOST. FUN. EVER.
So what about you? Are you a fan of girl talk, too? Do you have regular girls' night outs? Do you and your girlfriends ever get away for a weekend? What are some of your favorite things that you and your girlfriends have done together?
I'll be in the comments, living vicariously through every single one of you.

I love girl talk! I don’t have a regular girls’ night out, unless you count my Wed. bible study. I’ve never gone away with any of them. :( We were going to have a women’s retreat in Feb, but it got canceled before it really got off the ground by the coordinator. :( BOO (that’s my word for the day, I think…no reflection on Sophie’s nickname, of course).

OH I love it! Did the bonus include the 3 Amigas at the Curb Center for lunch? That’s where I was and they were OFF.THE.HOOK! (I now see the SNL girl doing the Suze Orman impression head-thing when I type like that!!)
I’m needing a girls’ weekend baaaaaad. I’m in one of several Bunco groups that meet monthly. We go all out with dinner (usually something we wouldn’t normally cook because our kids wouldn’t eat it) and sometimes we play (which makes people rotate so you get to visit with more people) and sometimes we just sit around and gab. Love it!

Gotta have my “girl talk time”! or I go nutso. I live in a house full of guys and my sanity saver is my “mom’s night out”! We usually just go to dinner, but occasionally grab a movie or some shopping! I would love to extend this evening out for a weekend, but dh is not so great with the little guy overnight! so I’ll have to wait on that, but looking forward to when I can get away for a weekend!

I love girl talk! Absolutely LOVE IT!! My husband is an Army chaplain who is deployed right now, so there aren’t a lot of girl weekends for me…no one to watch the kids. But some girlfriends and I just came up with an idea to do a sleepover and put all the kids to bed in sleeping bags, pack n’plays, etc. I am so looking forward to it!

I have several different sets of girlfriends.
I get together at least annually with my girls from college. We did this just a couple of weeks ago in San Antone.
I have my girls from our own little self-made small group of couples. We recently got together for a Life Today taping with Beth Moore.
Then I’ve got a group from our church that I also scrapbook with.
Our times together are usually so far between that while we do laugh, we’re usually sharing what’s going on in life. I guess we’ve all been through so many serious things together that we get that way a lot… serious, that is.
We talk about our kids and marriage relationships… our struggles with both. Work, the economy, and just life in general. But there is also usually some serious eating and shopping going on, I can tell you.

I LOVE my girls! Every Thursday a group of us gets together for Bible study. I love the deep spiritual truths we study, but I also love the talking time! We spend about an hour just talking and LAUGHING! I laugh so hard on Thursday nights. It’s medicine for my soul! And then after we finish discussing the “meat” of that week’s study, we always end up staying and talking more. Oh I love my girls!

Melanie Dawn -
They mention a question from the Curb Center - but it was the part they did at the end of the conference in the Sommet Center. HILARIOUS.

LOVE the GNO.
And the best girls’ thing ever? Flying to Paris with four of my girlfriends for a week to celebrate my 30th birthday!

A few years ago, I prayed for great friends. As a new mom I was isolated, and longed for friendship. My husband is wonderful of course, but OH to have someone to call a best friend, a woman…
Then God answered my prayers, ABUNDENTLY! And gradually. First He brought me to Mops. Then he took me into leadership with that Mops group. It was there that I made friends with 4 of the most incredible women I’ve ever met. We’ve been a tight group now for several years. We’ve moved from Mops into the world of “school age” kids. We get together regularly for birthday celebrations, game nights, shopping trips, and lunches. Our husbands have become friends too, and once a month we all get together. Our little group has grown big, 7 families now. With kids and all, our number is 32, CRAZY! We joke that we qualify for group rates now! And once a year us girls have a “slumber party”. We converge together somewhere, and eat lots of yummy food, and talk and laugh for hours.
One favorite memory…I wasn’t able to join my friends for a dinner out one night. I stayed home with a sick baby that night. One good friend was convinced someone in our group was pregnant. So they all bought pregnancy tests and took them in the restaraunt bathroom! They were all negative though, and my friend assumed her “feeling” was wrong.
2 weeks later I unexpectedly found out I was pregnant!
I am constantly amazed how God has blessed me through these woman. We are like sisters. Sorry I took so much space…it’s just that this is a subject very dear to my heart!

Tuesday evening I turned on the election returns and could feel myself slipping into a place I didn’t want to be, so I pulled out my Annointed, Transformed, Redeemed DVD’S and put in the bonus segment and once again laughed until there were tears. I will show it to my Bible study girls in two weeks when we finish up. It is hilarious and insightful all at once. So glad they included it with the lessons.

I have friends that I have had since childhood and now we are all growing old gracefully together ( we call each other gramma) and I have a group of friends that I am old enough to be there momma that I scrapbook with. These wonderful friends have gone through some really tough times with me. We all just love to get away for our girl weekends or girls night outs and laugh.
