The glory of the LORD

Sophie - November 2, 2008

Last night I was trying to get some writing done, and I pulled out my notebook from Living Proof Live in Knoxville (it was way back in 2005) because I was trying to remember something Beth Moore said about serving globally. And as I was making my way through my notes from the different sessions, I ran across a Scripture reference in the margins.

Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to look up the passage. And when I read it, I started to cry right there at my kitchen table. I cannot imagine a more timely word for Melanie and the Compassion team that's serving in the Dominican Republic this week:

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?

Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter--
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
"If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,

and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.

The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.

Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings."
- Isaiah 58:6-12

Praise you, Lord. Praise your holy name.

That is a good WORD!

Praying for all of the bloggers on the trip.

Laura

Oh, I will be praying these scriptures over His servants this week in the DR.

My neighbor in college (who loved, loved, loved Barry Manilow BTW!) was best friends with a girl from the DR. Her dad was a higher up in the government there. I did not retain what it was…even so, I know that, as in every country, there is an area of great need. Praying for these serving and especially for these in need.

By the way? I think you have a heart like Jesus to be so tender towards His people and His Word. I pray my heart would grow to be like yours, Sophie—huge with love.

Lora:

Amen! A timely Word! I just love the book of Isaiah! The Lord has brought Melanie to my mind to pray for her at different times today.

Sophie, I keep all my notes from LPL conferences too - they are treasures that bless each time I open them!

I love it. I, too, just read a few of those verses earlier this week whilst thinking about those Compassion bloggers “spending themselves.” God is nothing if not consistent! (:
