Wisdom from Kay Arthur
Sophie - August 8, 2009
Last Friday afternoon - while we were at a conference in Charlotte - Melanie and I formulated a plan. We were going to listen to our buddy Lysa speak at 4, walk out of our hotel around 5:30, hop in the car with our friend Annie, make the trek to Greensboro and then pull up at the Deeper Still arena around 6:45. Since DS didn't start until 7, we thought our plan was mighty fine indeed.
But there was one thing we didn't take into consideration: the fact that I-85 would be more clogged than a Walmart parking lot the day before Christmas. It took us about 45 minutes to travel 3 miles, and while I am typically not a person who sits around and longs for ye olden days, I would've LOVED to have a horse and buggy around 5:45 last Friday afternoon. Because let me tell you: compared to crawling along the interstate at two miles an hour in Annie's car, that horse and buggy would have made us feel like we were breaking the sound barrier.
Clearly the NCDOT had no idea that WE WERE IN NEED OF A WORD FROM MISS KAY.
We finally made it to the arena around 7:30, and while we missed worship with Travis and the praise team, we didn't miss a second of Kay Arthur's teaching. And y'all, I have said it before and I'll say it again: if you ever have the opportunity to hear her teach, GO. Don't even think about it. GO. What God does through her is absolutely remarkable. I mean, she taught THE WHOLE BOOK OF HEBREWS last Friday night. Such wisdom.
This past week I've found myself going back to Hebrews during my quiet time. Honestly, Kay pointed out a whole bunch of stuff that I had never picked up on before (I'm a work in progress, people). And while I know that Kay's Covenant study is DEFINITELY going to be in my future, I've also found myself wishing that I could tap into a little bit of her wisdom in the here and now.
And do you know what I found out a couple of days ago? Miss Kay has a podcast, y'all.

Sophie, I have recently found Kay A. myself. I always have heard about her but never really studied with her. I guess I was just young and thought she was just “too much” for me. Now I addicted to bible studies. Kay and Beth are the ones who are my teachers at the moment. I just received Kay’s Covenant and I am doing Beth’s the Priesthood series that I received. I can’t believe how they so interelate. God totally knows what I need to hear and apply in my life right this moment.

The very first time I heard her was last year in Nashville and I about died over her wisdom. I’m so happy you shared this nugget with us. THANK YOU.
And, it looks as if there will be some fun in 2010 Deeper Still! ;)

Sophie,
Number one, never underestimate the slowness of I-85 in or near Charlotte. Once you think it can’t get any slower it does. Whenever we plan to travel out of Charlotte on a Friday we always allow an extra hour on our travel time, because girl…the Friday rush hour around here starts on Thursday afternoon.
Secondly, Kay is awesome. I had the wonderful opportunity of meeting her in person at B.G.E.A. a few months back. She is quite honestly one of the most gracious, encouraging, and REAL people I have ever met. The love of the Lord just emanates from her. She then gave the B.G.E.A. staff a message that had us all on the edge of our seats. That’s saying something, because we hear lots of great teaching and preaching in our devotional times. I wholeheartedly agree that if anyone gets a chance to hear her they should. I hoping to see her again very soon.

Hey Sophie, This sounds awesome! I know you had such a great time soaking up all Kay had to share about Hebrews. I am going to have to check out her podcast too.
