An exciting LPL Memphis update

Sophie - September 30, 2009

We're still working on the details of our little AllAccess get-together at Living Proof Live in Memphis (I'm hoping to email y'all all the details by Monday at the latest), but in the meantime I wanted to share some very exciting LPL Memphis-related news.

However, I should probably add the disclaimer that if you've never read my personal blog, the next paragraph probably won't make any sense to you at all. So just feel free to stare blankly into space when you read it. Or, if you're like me, you can squeal and clap your hands and pretend like you understand. That's how I react to about 60% of my life, by the way.

Anyway. The news is that I'm going to have a very special travel companion with me in Memphis (besides Melanie, of course). And that very special travel companion is none other than Martha / Mother / "Martie." My mother-in-law.

I KNOW.

Martha has never been to any sort of LifeWay event. She's only seen one video of Beth Moore teaching, but when she saw it she thought Beth was "darlin'! just darlin'! and SMART AS A WHIP!" Martha is beyond excited about going to Memphis - she keeps referring to it as "the trip of a lifetime" - but I also know that she has absolutely no idea what to expect.

And I say this because last night she asked me what sort of jacket I was planning to wear Friday night, and when I said, "I don't know if I'll wear a jacket," she said, "Well, don't you think it'll be a little cold when we're sitting outside?"

"Sitting outside?"

"Well, aren't we going to be in something like a football stadium?"

And at that point I realized that she thought that LPL was something akin to a Billy Graham crusade in the 70s.

I explained to her that we would in fact be indoors, and she said, "Well I didn't know! I didn't know! I know there are a lot of people and I just assumed, I mean I just assumed that we'd be outside! But I'm so glad we'll be inside! That will be perfectly wonderful!"

And now I'm thinking that I probably need to do a better job of getting Martha up-to-speed on what she can expect next weekend.

So. I know lots of you are veterans of LifeWay women's events, and I'm sure you have all sorts of wisdom to offer. What do you think are the top three things Martha needs to know before she gets to LPL? What would you tell someone who has never been to a LifeWay event before? What information do I need to make sure to share with her on our drive from Birmingham to Memphis?

Can't wait to read your comments!

YES!! do share because this is my first LPL event too and I want to be prepared…oh, and I’m expecting baby #4 so I’ll take that into consideration! =)

Leanne:

1 - a jacket or light sweater might be good in case it does get cold in the arena.

2 - be prepared to be blown away at the sound of 10,000 woman singing sweet praises to Jesus.

3 - be prepared to be moved by the Holy Spirit as you listen to Mrs. Kay, Beth, and Priscilla speak God’s truth.

4 - be ready to laugh and to cry

5 - most of all come with an open heart, leave all your woes at God’s feet for the day and a half and just sit quietly and listen for him.

It is so hard to explain to someone who has never been to one of these events what to expect because it looks so different to each woman. So all I can say is be ready to be moved…. There is nothing quite like it. I’m so glad she will be able to experience the LPL event in Memphis but jealous I won’t be there of course… :)) I have been to several and my last one was a few weeks ago in Orlando. God is good!

  1. Take tissue. If Travis and the team do not make you cry, Bethie will.

  2. Pace your beverage consumption - bathroom lines way too long and you don’t want to miss a thing.

  3. Paper & Pen! Don’t expect your notes to make sense till later:)

Amanda M:

All great tips from Leanne! I’ll just add a couple more: - know where your closest bathroom is…just sayin’ - know your plans for dinner/lunch - don’t just try to wing it…some arenas are prepared for the mad dash of food & drink items and others are not…pack a snack or 5 if food is an issue to freak out about. ;) - be ready to make new friends as you stand in lines or sit next to one another during the conference…God placed you next to each other - so find out why! :) - rather than feeling overwhelmed with the sea of ladies that are attending, find some peace in knowing that all of the sisters are together for the same purpose…to have an encounter with the Lord…say a prayer for them and yourself if you get anxious in crowds.

Enjoy! :)

Gina:

Be gentle with both Miss Marti and RachWinn- what they are about to experience may be too much for one of our seasoned citizens and pregnant women. Maybe LPL needs a disclaimer sign like on the thrilling rides at a theme park!

Sallye:
  1. Your Bible

  2. A note pad (I never have enough room in the program for notes) plus you will need a place to write all the names and emails for your new best friends.

  3. Comfortable shoes, lots of walking regardless of where you sit.

  4. Money…books and CDs aplenty from lifeway. Compassion or Samartian’s purse is a great cause and is there also.

  5. The belief that God is going to speak directly to you at some point over the weekend.

  6. A willingness to be used. There will be woman there that will need you to come up along side them to encourage and pray for.

  7. Your excitment, that child like Christmas morning joy.

  8. The belief that God has planned this weekend just for you, because He just loves you that much.

How exciting! So fun! : )

  1. To get ready for the time of your life! I can’t think of anywhere I would rather be!

  2. To be ready to put your “Praise” on… you will laugh… cry… and then stand in awe as Beth and Travis so beautifully usher all of us into the throne room!

  3. You will be transformed! God will have something amazing for you!

Oh goodness just thinking about all of this makes me want to “pop” I am so excited!

Hope to hug your sweet neck Sophie! Maybe I’ll get to have the pleasure of meeting you too Martie!

God Bless- Emmy : )

So sweet. You have to take her picture when she sees just how many women are there. THAT will be priceless I’m sure. :)

I’m all about the tissues, the Bible, extra pen…and an expectant heart.

Counting the days! stephanie

Honestly, I don’t know why anyone hasn’t mentioned this yet but, hello, all Martie needs to know is that, no matter how high she fixes her hair, it still won’t even come close to Beth’s.

Maybe you should just prepare her for the disappointment now? ;)

Just enjoy your time with Jesus and Sophie (and Beth, et. al), Martha! It WILL be the trip of a lifetime!

Melissa:

I think everyone’s comments are very thorough (jacket, tissues, snacks, pen/paper, more snacks), but I’d like to add that I would take a seat cushion (depending on what type of seat she’ll be sitting in). When I took my mom to a WoF Conference, she complained ALL DAY LONG about how sore her rump was. :o)
I hope you ladies have fun!

Mary:

Sophie, how incredible to have Martha along! How FUN! Let’s see my top tips…..

All the ones previously mentioned -

and well thought out clothing choices such as,

  1. tops that stay down when my arms go up praising God (‘cause my 6-pack is hiding under… let’s just say, it’s hiding)

  2. jewelry that is cute, but silent & doesn’t make me get on my own nerves

  3. shoes that are both cute and comfortable

  4. non-restrictive clothing - I don’t want anything getting between me and my praise

I’m sure I could think of more, but we’ll leave it at that. And if hot flashes are a threat a little personal fan is a lifesaver! Just sayin’

Amy:

So glad Martha is going to be joining us!

  1. You’re going to experience some amazing worship as the event begins. That will get your blood pumping and you’ll probably throw that jacket right off your back, oh, yes, yes you will!!

  2. You will need a new journal and pen. You’re going to want to take as many notes as your hand can possibly write down in the short time you’re there. And you might want to dunk your hand in that extra cup of ice from all the hand cramping.

  3. You will have a personal encounter with God that you’re going to be processing and applying for the rest of your life. And remember to have a blast, laugh out loud and thank Him for the opportunity to curl up at the feet of His throne!!

Fran:

Oh please let me come hang with y’all. Please please please. I would give anything to be a fly on a wall. Can you secretly mic her or something or record every single thing she says?? It would be a podcast in itself.

Well, it’s gonna be a fine time next weekend! Can’t wait to see ya!

Hugs, Fran

kim:

sweet martha so glad she is coming My mom will be there as well so tell martha to wear some cute but comfy shoes :) At least that is what my mom says b/c her feet hurt the last time she came with me to an event - hehe See you in seven days!! Much love Kim

I love Martha!! She makes me smile really BIG!! Praying that the time is such a blessing to her…and all of you.
