A new word for the new year
Sophie - January 6, 2010
For the last few years the Lord has been so sweet to give me a word or a phrase that ends up serving as sort of a theme for my year. In 2008 it was "I can trust Him." In 2009 I felt several specific phrases on my heart, but two of the main ones were "real life" and "faithful in the small things."
This year - right before Christmas - I started to wonder if God was going to give me a theme for 2010. And sure enough, through a couple of different conversations with friends as well as some old-fashioned conviction, three words kept coming up over and over again: "freedom" (that's a carryover from 2009, by the way), "intention" - especially in relation to one particular area of my life - and "give." No catchy phrases. Just words.
And already - only six days into the new year - I have seen evidence that God really means for me to pay attention to those things. I don't think it's because He wants me to go through some motions and then brush my hands together and think, LESSON LEARNED IN 2010! It's all part of the continuing process of working out my salvation with fear and trembling. And as y'all know, that process is rarely easy - but it is always good. God's a mighty creative teacher - and He is so faithful.
So what about y'all? Do you feel like the Lord has given you a theme or a focus for this new year? We'd love to hear about it!

My theme for this year, at least at this point, is something I read Sunday in Beth Moore’s Daniel study— Fear nothing but God.
It’s been three days and it’s become a kind of mantra for me.

Oh, Erin - I may have to add that one to my list. That spoke straight to my heart - thanks for sharing!

OH! totally have a theme for 2010:
“Faith and Obedience are absolutely interlinked. Those who believe, obey; and those who obey show they believe.” along with this verse from 1 Tim. 4:7-8
“…train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”
And He means for me to pay attention to it too. Hugs, rachel

Hope is my word/theme for 2010. 2009 was a difficult year and yet my hope is in the Lord.

I love you, Sophie, ya know it? I love your heart that listens!
Mine were these: Resolve to Journey
Just daily deciding to journey with Him, saying yes in advance of even know what He’ll ask, knowing He’s already given me everything I need.
BTW, I took a Bible study in the fall called “The Intentional Woman” by Carol Travilla and Joan Webb—LIFE-changing for being intentional. Really. It marks me every day.

God has assigned the theme for my life and family and work to be “peace” this year. Given the little mama-fit I threw 1 hour before heading out the door to church tonight, I think God will be doing some major attitude overhauls this year.

Coming out of 2009 and that being one of the hardest and longest seasons of my life and my family’s life, God has given me this: Reversal of Destiny!
Also, to be very intentional to bless others.
Hoping to see you Sophie in 2010!
Love ya, Patty

Full Access, and courage. Full access to all my junk, and the courage to face it and let Him change me by the empowering of the Holy Spirit. It started late in 2009 and continues into 2010.

2009= “HE IS Faithful”
2010= so far “obdience from the heart” Rm. 6:17-18 and “He will equip me with everything good for doing His will” Heb. 13.20-21
Great Post :)

“True Surrender”
I know that sounds weird… but God has really been putting that on my heart lately… I actually just wrote a post yesterday (which I never do) about it! So it was funny when I clicked over here and read your post… think God may be trying to tell me something!
Love you Sophie!

Hey, Sophie! Last January, the Lord laid upon my heart the word “HOPE.” It has been so applicable in SO many areas of my life…hope for my girls, hope for the future, hope in Him, and especially HOPE for one of my best friends with Stage 4 breast cancer. And do you know (He’s so good!)…it has been EVERY WHERE I HAVE TURNED this year! I love Him so much! I’m going to continue to Hope in Him in 2010. Thanks for this post, Soph!
