One year
Melanie - January 5, 2010
Two years ago I decided to start the new year off right by deciding to read the Bible in a year. And so I did.
I found this site online that served as my guide to go through the Bible chronologically (Who knew that Job came before most of Genesis? Probably everyone except me.) and plowed my way through the entire Bible in a year.
Sure, some people do it in 90 days or one sitting, but I wanted to read at a pace that would allow me to actually comprehend what I was reading and that means I needed some TIME.
During that year, I learned so many things and read so many stories that I didn't remember ever reading before. Anyone remember that king who got stabbed right through the stomach in Judges? Yeah, me neither. It's funny that they didn't include that in the flannel board Sunday school lessons.
But the biggest thing was the overwhelming pictures of God's mercy and grace that I saw laid right before me as I read the story from beginning to end. A story where everything points to Jesus and God's plan to save us from ourselves.
So I'm in the process of doing it again this year. And I'd love it if some of you would join in. If you've done it before, I'd love to hear what you learned that year or what God revealed to you.
Oh, and on a different note go read this post by Priscilla at the Going Beyond blog. I think it's a new way to mark a new year and see what God does.

I just found this site. I’m so excited! Yes, I have read through the Bible in a year before. Our church encouraged us to buy The Daily Walk Bible ($12)and all read through it together. It was really neat to do it that way. You felt you were accountable even though no one was checking up on you. So, I started again yesterday. I remember that I learned alot, but can’t remember what, so that is why I’m doing it again. I do remember, though, that it felt like I was speeding through each days reading, so I am going to take more time with it this year and see what the Lord is showing me this time. I’m sure it will be different. Like, maybe I’ll remember something specifically! Love your site!

I am reading the Bible through too only I am using the Proverbs 31 Chronological Bible in NLT — I love that is a different translation than what I am use to - changes things up a bit!
I have read the Bible through one other time only when our Sunday School class did it - that was from Genesis to Revelation. I am excited to do it in chronological order. I attempted to follow the list you are following one year but half way through our SS class started reading it and so I dropped it and followed their format. Anyway - one thing that is different in this chronological Bible than the list you are following is that it puts the different lineages in where they belong - so you are reading along in Genesis and all of a sudden there is the family lineage from 1 Chronicles that goes along with what you just read in Genesis.
Excited to get this accomplished this year!

I have done a reading the Bible in a year plan before, but this year I am in the process of reading the Bible chronologically like you are doing…
Also Bev Brandon is hosting a little blog that I and others can discuss what we are reading, so that will help me to stay focused.
Blessings

I started with the NLV chronological bible last year… but dropped off sometime in May. So, I am trying again this year. It would be great to have some accountablility!

I am so happy to get this information. I told myself this is the year. I am using the Message translation to mix it up a little.

I’m guessing if we’d have seen that story on flannel graph we would remember the king and the judges name who stabbed him - you are so funny!
In one of her books, Nancy Leigh DeMoss, suggested dividing the Bible into six sections, starting in Genesis, Joshua, Job, Isaiah, Matthew and Romans and reading a chapter or more in each section daily. This was one of the most exciting ways for me to read the Word through - it was amazing how what I would be reading in one portion of the Word, would go hand-in-hand with another. The unity of the Scripture amazes me.
Thank you for sharing a link to Priscilla’s blog - what a treat to find her online.

My sweet daughter - how precious it is to see you write again of your gratefulness of what the Lord has done in your life. I thank Him everyday for keeping His hand upon you and a hedge of protection around you. I am so proud of you, and He is, too.
