Go anyway
Sophie - June 2, 2010
I realized tonight that Deeper Still Denver is only a couple of weeks away. And as I was thinking Get ready, Denver - you are in for a TREAT, something unexpected came to mind.
It's easy to think about going to a great women's event like Deeper Still and immediately start organizing a group of friends who might also want to attend. We sort of naturally assume that we'll go with a group. And that's a great option - it really is. There are few things as fun as having a relaxing, edifying, encouraging time with girlfriends. I am all about it.
But.
If you've ever felt like you couldn't go to a women's event because it might not be nearly as fun if you're alone, or you don't know a single soul who's going and you might not have anyone to talk to, or you don't want to have to figure out how to get to the arena and park the car and find a seat all by yourself, then I just want to encourage you with two very simple words: go anyway.
Seriously.
Go anyway.
It's been my experience that you'll have a wonderful time even if you don't have a buddy or five with you. You'll have plenty of people to talk to if you're feeling a little chatty. Don't get me wrong: I love being part of a group. I love hanging out with my friends. I love talking about what I'm learning as a weekend unfolds. But every once in awhile, it's good - VERY GOOD - to get away with God. Just you and Him. He's mighty fine company, you know.
So if the prospect of being by yourself is the only thing that's keeping you from attending Deeper Still or Going Beyond or something at your own church - well, go anyway.
Go anyway.
I think you'll be glad you did.

You are so right, Sophie. I went to LPM for ministers’ wives in March of last year. Had never been to Nashville, had no idea how I was going to get from the hotel to the church, etc, etc.
It turned out to be one of the most blessed experiences of my life. One of the highlights stemmed from my area of biggest anxiety - transportation. It happened that the airport shuttle lady gave me her card, told me she or her co-worker would be glad to run me back and forth on call for a nominal sum (much less than cabs) - showed up on time every time, and best of all we had these amazing spiritual conversations en route. I gave her the gorgeous book Beth blessed us with, and gave her co-worker another lovely book Lifeway gave us. It was prime witnessing opportunity and never would have happened if I’d given in to my fears.
Wow that was incredibly long.
But go, girls. Go.

After struggling with who to take with me, I felt I was supposed to go to Deeper Still-Las Vegas ALONE. I did go alone, and was BLESSED beyond anything I could imagine. God got hold of me in a way that wouldn’t have been possible if others had attended with me. I cried the best tears, because I was so radically touched by the Holy Spirit that weekend. Thank you Kay Arthur, Beth Moore and Priscilla Shirer and everyone from Lifeway for this life-changing event. Ladies: Get to DENVER’s DEEPER STILL and find out what God’s got for you there. He will CHANGE YOU and He will MEET with YOU there!

Wendy & RL -
Loved reading your stories. I had a similar experience at Deeper Still in Nashville. It was life-changing. And I was all by my lonesome. Except I wasn’t lonesome at all. :-)

I signed up to go by myself. The next thing I know, two college girls asked if they could go with me. Had I been a scaredy cat, the 3 of us would miss a wonderful ministry opportunity to be ministered to, and I would have missed an opportunity to minister to them.

The very first Beth Moore event I ever went to, I went solo and sat so far up in the nosebleed section that Beth (without the big screen) looked like a spunky little dot with hair from where I was. It was a God appointment - a life changing God appointment - one of those spiritual markers in my life that I look back to and thank the LORD that it was me and Him that weekend.

Just want to say an A-Men to that Sophie! I went to a smaller retreat center here on the East Coast at Sandy Cove, a few hours from my home ALONE, it was one of the best retreats ever, I met & shared mealtimes with lovely sisters in the Lord. Cynthia Heald was the speaker, I was like a sponge absorbing all the Lord spoke through her…and even got to share breakfast with Cynthia what an woman of God and grace. Go for it girls…..because you are never alone. God wants to bless you with his presence and love on you like no other time before in your life :o)
