Table for two

Do you see the video with Pam and Paige that's over to your right?

Well, even though I like to think that I keep up pretty well with what's going on at LifeWay Women, I learned something new when I watched that video. Oh yes I did.

About a year ago a friend of mine who's a good bit younger than I am asked me if I would meet with her once a week. You know, just to talk through some stuff and pray together. I was a little surprised by her request, but since I felt like it was something the Lord wanted me to do, I agreed.

And do you know what? I have absolutely loved our time together over the last year. I think we're going to be in each other's lives for a long time, and I am so grateful for that. But as the older person in our friendship, I've sometimes felt like I didn't exactly know the best way to lead us. Should our time be more structured? Should I bring some sort of lesson? It's a tricky balance balance to find the place between making the most of your time and lecturing from atop a tower of books, you know?

All that to say: when I watched Pam and Paige's video, I was so happy to see a resource called Table For Two. It's designed for one-on-one discipleship, and I am tickled - TICKLED - to know about it because I think it'll give my friend and me a framework for our time together each week. I have a feeling that it's going to be exactly what I didn't know I needed.

If that makes sense. Which it probably doesn't. So feel free to just smile and nod with a puzzled look on your face.

So what about y'all? Any favorite resources or words-o-wisdom for mentoring younger women? We'd love to hear (or read, as it were) your thoughts!

Sophie! You are not alone. I am a Girl’s Director and of course I follow the Girl’s Ministry blog, but when that book first came out and I went and bought it the day of. I mean, hello, who needs help at mentoring? I do! I hope it is helpful to you. I’ve not read the whole thing, but from what I can tell, it’s super helpful and structured.

Regina:

Have just attended your frazzled female night in Greenwood, SC. My problem is not from being frazzled but entering a time in my life when i’m NOT frazzled. Having an hard time adjusting to having 2 boys that are in there early 20’s!

Sallie Howell:

I had been asked to meet with a younger lady whom I’ve know since we were children. I felt the same thing. We tried starting a Bible study and it hasn’t worked. This Summer we just decide to let our kids…all different ages join us for lunch and a swim. It became a time for my hubby and I to realize we could make this a family event of mentoring. I am excited about this resource it will help be a guide to my friend and I. Thanks!
