.Mom - We'd love to hear from you

Melanie - September 29, 2011

I was just thinking about .Mom again this morning. There were so many moments that will stick with me for a long time. Like listening to Angela Cottrell speak some serious truth in the moms of children 13 and under panel. In particular, I will never forget her saying, "We have to trust God's sovereignty over our children's character".

Isn't that so true? But so hard?

And I'll never forget Angela Thomas's reminder that we are to be the light or BE THE SUNSHINE for our families. We need to show them what the love of Jesus looks like in the real world.

Or Angie Smith sharing her story and pushing me to a place where I'm not content to just raise a nice Christian kid in a nice Christian home, but to show our kids the adventure and risk as we follow Christ.

I loved Vicki Courtney's honesty as she talked about making our families our priority and being there for them.

And I was so encouraged by Priscilla Shirer's talk about our boats of disappointment and how it's okay to get out and wash our nets.

In fact, I think it's safe to say I loved the entire experience. It was just so powerful to be around that many women while they loved and encouraged each other to walk the path that Christ has given them and to be good stewards of our calls to motherhood.

I'd love to hear what you liked the best. Was there a particular piece of wisdom that stood out? Or a moment that inspired you?

I was in the session with Jean Castille on “And God said…It is not good” talking about marriage. I had never heard her speak before and she was amazing. She brought laughter even when the issues got pretty serious. But there was one woman that wanted to know what to do about a husband that would not pick up his socks and it was causing her lots of frustration. Jean was sympathetic, thinking this was a newly married woman, but she had been married for 10 years and Jean told her “Just pick the socks up!” I loved it. Because so many times I let little things, like socks on the floor, nag at me and cause division between my husband and I, while a simple act on my part would avoid the entire situation.

I got the t-shirt for “Be the Sunshine” and would have gotten one with “Just pick the sock up!” if there had been one.

Debbie:

I was in the breakout session “Parenting your special needs child” and it was such an encouragement to see so many other women struggling like me with children with the “unseen” special needs. We were crying together and encouraging one another. It was a pivotal moment for me to realize that I am not alone in this journey called motherhood. Thank you .mom!

Carrie Deering:

I was at the conference last weekend and came away so refreshed. I loved the break out session “Wild Things: The art of nurturing boys”. As a single mother of two boys it was so good to get tangible direction for being a better Mom. Since I have never been a boy I have less understanding for where they are coming from. I purchased the book after the session so I can get even more ideas for raising my precious boys. I also have a little girl and enjoyed the break out session “Raising Girls”

All in all it was such a refreshing weekend and I have come back to dive into deep waters and enjoy the position that God has me in.
