*WARNING: This video is not for those who get motion sickness due to the shakey camera moves. I won't name names.
CLARIFICATION: While we love and esteem Lisa Harper, she will NOT be at the Going Beyond event in San Antonio next month. We wish, but other Bible teaching calls.
The ALAMO: No we did not go in, but we had a moment out front.
WHY: Lisa and I were scurrying around down town San Antonio last October when I accompanied her on one of her Women of Faith fun weekends. (She was awesome by the way). Loved that event and getting to meet the amazing women of faith themselves.
I'LL BE BACK: Not to the Alamo, (well maybe) but definitely at Alamo City Church on Feb 25 and 26 for our FIRST Going Beyond, Priscilla Shirer event of 2011! Anthony Evans will be leading worship. AND Melanie has promised to take me for fabulous, authentic Tex Mex.

Last summer our pastor preached a wonderful sermon series on church discipline. It was such a beautiful picture of God's protection for us through our local body of believers. But since the topic of church discipline can sometimes be misunderstood, our communication ministry created some hilarious videos to preface each installment in the series.
Earlier today I remembered this video - mainly because it CRACKS ME UP - and I thought I'd share. If you've been a member of a church for longer than, oh, a week, you'll totally appreciate it.
Hope y'all have a happy Thursday!
I don't know about y'all, but by the time March gets here, I am ready for some sunshine. The irony, of course, is that this week (so far) has been as gray as gray can be, and while I know that spring is on the way because I can see the beginnings of blooms on the Bradford pear tree outside my window, I am having to be really intentional about finding joy in the little things.
Because the big things? Like the sky and the sun? NOT HELPING ME OUT RIGHT NOW.
Oh, I kid. Sort of.
Anyway, I think one of the sweetest things that God does for us is to just overwhelm us with gratitude in the midst of very ordinary circumstances. For whatever reason, I've had more of those moments than usual this past week, and given that I've felt a little hemmed in by gray skies, my heart is so thankful. Here are three of my favorites.

Our little boy turned 7 earlier this week, and we celebrated his birthday with the little boys from his class. We were at a jump place, and at first I was a little frustrated that I couldn't get anybody to stand still for even half a second for a decent picture. But then it dawned on me that we were surrounded by healthy, happy children who were tickled to pieces to spend the afternoon together. And remembering that made all my blurry pictures that much sweeter.

I bet you're thinking, "Um, really? Eggs?" But yes - eggs. We spent Sunday night with some friends of ours, and Monday morning we had the most beautiful, delicious breakfast. The omelette was the star of the show. The combination of a homemade breakfast and great company made me oh-so-happy.

A few days ago I bought one of Travis' old CDs on iTunes (is it rude to call a CD "old"? Maybe I should call it "classic"). Anyway, I downloaded it, and oh my word, we are enjoying it so much. It's been so fun to sing along to some of the worship songs that we associate with when we started visiting our church about eight or nine years ago. Makes my heart full.
What about y'all? What have been some of your favorite "everyday joys" lately?
We'd love to hear about them in the comments!
You know how sometimes your kids get excited about something and it catches you off-guard a little bit? Like suddenly they CAN'T WAIT to go to the gas station or a two year-old toy becomes their favorite thing ever or driving a new route to school is a life-changing new adventure?
Well, that's pretty much what happened with my six year-old little boy and Beth Moore's book tour for So Long, Insecurity. He was way past excited about getting to meet "Miss Beth" in person yesterday in Birmingham. It makes total sense, of course - he's heard me mention her name and her Bible studies countless times over the last five or six years - but I was a little taken aback by how WAY PAST TICKLED he was about going to Costco with me and standing in line at the book signing.
You just never know what will delight those little people.
Before the Costco signing, though, Beth had a signing at another local bookstore. A couple of our blog friends were there, and they were sweet enough to share their pictures.

My little man and I went to Costco after I picked him up from school, and the line was a little bit long.

I have to say, though, that it moved pretty quickly, and before we knew it we had looped around to the other side of the store and could see the white book-signing "tent" in the distance.
Of course I forgot to take a single picture of Alex meeting Beth and showing her his missing bottom teeth, but it'll always be a sweet memory - as will hearing him say, "BYE, BETH MOORE!" when we were walking away from the table.
Once we got out of the crowd, I turned around and snapped this picture because I am the lamest photographer in all of lamedom.

All I know to do is apologize for my lack of photography skills. But at least you can see the back of Beth's hair, and that is always a blessing.
If any of y'all are going to one of the signings in Nashville and have pictures to share (there's no doubt that yours will be way better than mine), please let us know!
Hey everybody -
I read some great posts from the LifeWay Women folks on the interweb this week, and I thought this fine, rainy Saturday morning was an excellent opportunity to share some of the webby goodness.
- Priscilla Shirer writes about Jacob's journey in "The Secret of Stones."
- I also loved Priscilla's video challenge to remember that we can all - ALL - use our gifts for the glory of God.
- Vicki Courtney shares the process of preparing a message, and it humbled me and made me laugh all at the same time. If you've ever done any teaching or speaking, you'll appreciate her post so much.
- LifeWay's Chris Adams has started a great new blog series called "Life Lessons for Leaders." Good, challenging stuff.
Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!
And I guess by a few things, I mean two things.
1. Priscilla Shirer is taping her new Bible study on Jonah this week. I know she would appreciate your prayers.
2. Priscilla's new Going Beyond website has just launched and it is FABULOUS. Plus, it includes a blog and you know how we love us a new blog.
Y'all have a great day!
I just ran across this video, and it made me laugh out loud. So I watched it again. And then one more time. At which point I figured I'd better share it with the group.
Hope y'all are having a great Thursday!
