First of all, I owe a big-time thank you to Melanie, who picked up on my stress level last Sunday night and very sweetly offered to pinch hit for me (and for THE WHOLE WEEK) on AllAccess. I was and am so grateful, and without boring you with the details, I'll just say that based on the way the rest of my week went, Mel's timing was PERFECTION. I love how God knows exactly what we need before we do.

ANYWAY.

I wanted to give y'all a little heads up about something that's happening tomorrow. There's a LifeWay Women webcast at noon central time, and it's going to be a .mom preview that'll no doubt be chock-full-o-fun. In addition to cute Melissa Wilson, who's the event coordinator, you'll get to hear from Priscilla Shirer, Vicki Courtney and Angie Smith. It's a delightful bunch, for sure.

If you'd like to participate, just click over to the LifeWay Women Live page a few minutes before noon central, and you'll see a link on the right side of the page that'll take you to the webcast. I'm going to try to hop in the webcast chat, so I hope to see some of y'all there.

Have a great week, everybody!

Secret Church Simulcast

Sophie - January 12, 2011 - Comments (1)

A few years ago our pastor started something at our church called Secret Church. It was on a Friday night, and as soon as I saw that it was a six-hour Bible study (seriously. 6pm until midnight.), I thought he might be disappointed in the turn-out. Because, you know, SIX HOURS.

But just like back in the early 90s when I thought the internet would never take off, I was so wrong. People showed up in droves. We now have Secret Church twice a year, and each time there's a comprehensive look at a pretty broad topic (The Holy Spirit, Spiritual Warfare, The Old Testament, etc.). There's also a dedicated time to hear testimonies from the persecuted church. What's even cooler is that the Secret Church meetings are translated into a number of different languages, and the materials are distributed all over the world.

It's such a simple idea. And by God's grace, it's impacting people like crazy.

Secret Church tickets (which just cover the cost of materials) now sell out in about 10 minutes, and the demand for this intensive time in the Word continues to increase. So I'm just as tickled as I can be to tell you that LifeWay will be simulcasting the next Secret Church on April 22, 2011 - Good Friday. The topic is Crucifixion, Salvation and the Glory of God.

Registration opens next week, and you can find all the registration information you need over on the Secret Church site.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments of this post. I probably won't know the answers, but my friend Angelia will, and I'll be happy to pass them along to her.

Have a great Wednesday, y'all!

p.s. Don't miss Thom Rainer's post about the Secret Church simulcast - there's some great info and insight there!

Women Mentoring Girls

Kris S - March 22, 2010 - Comments (0)

*Post by Chris Adams

"Will you disciple me?"
"Will you mentor me?"
"Can we meet and maybe you can show me how to read my Bible like you do?"
"Can you teach me how to hear from God?"

If you've been in ministry very long, you've probably heard these questions--or a variation of them. The concept of mentoring or discipling is not a new one. In fact, it's been around since biblical times (check out Titus 2!). Scripture sets forth our mandate for discipling others.

But here's the big question: what does discipleship look like in girls' ministry? How do you differentiate (or do you?) between discipleship and mentoring? Or even counseling? The terms are thrown around, but with such different concepts in mind, we need to get on the same page, with the same direction and the same vision.

So let's talk about it--on Tuesday, March 23rd at noon, through a web cast.

Amy Pierson, girls' minister at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, will be joining us soon to discuss this topic. She a disciple and a discipler. She's passionate about girls' ministry but even more passionate about helping girls and young adult women discover and apply God's Word for ourselves. She is also the author of the new girls' ministry book Table for Two: Doing Life and Savoring Scripture Together.
