I've just posted a review of Baptist Hymnal at IsaiahSix.org. The new hymnal is really a great asset to the church and I hope its adoption is widespread. Thanks for your faithfulness in putting it together. http://isaiahsix.org/blog/2008/08/the-2008-baptist-hymnal/

It looks great. I only wish they had included “O The Deep Deep Love of Jesus with the Ebenezer tune.

Simply put, this new hymnal represents what I believe is in the hearts of many worship leaders, music that reflects today's Christian faith without forgetting the hymns that move us to action.

Never before have I (or so many others to whom I have unveiled this resource) seen a collection of wonderful hymns, choruses and praise songs in a hymnal form. With this hymnal alone I believe that any church can include in their worship songs that apply to today's Christian walk. God bless everyone who takes advantage of this and the many other exhaustive resources that have been created through this project.

I look forward to what the future holds for this ministry and I pray that lives are changed in worship and praise through the use of this music and the many resources provided by LifeWay Worship.

I'm still awaiting details on what the online resources are and when they will go live. I have a copy of the hymnal which I received at the LifeWay worship conference this summer, and really like it. The main use our church will have for this is downloadable orchestral arrangements for individual hymns. Any news on when this will become available? What will the pricing be?

I love it.It has the new with the old.I think it will be a great asset to our church and can minister to the youong and the older groups.

We have recently started a Praise and Worship band, we only have a piano/keyboard player(who is also our church pianist), guitar player (me!) and 4 singers at a very conservative Southern Baptist Church in SC. We are always looking for new and different stuff to play besides traditional hymns that brings Honor and Glory to our Saviour thats "not too lively" for our congregation.

Our pianist gave me a copy of the new hynmal, and i thought oh great, a hymnal, whooppee. To my surprise, and great joy, it has some GREAT new songs in it. I think the "mix" of traditional hymns and newer songs is wonderful. I sat and flipped through the Hynmal shortly after i received it. I had to keep calling my wife over (who is one of our singers) and saying " Ooh, look at this, look at that".

Having the chord charts available for the whole hynmal is AWESOME. I have had my chord charts on order for a couple of weeks and can not wait to get my hands on it.

Lifeway did a great job on putting this togther, God put the right people in the right place to put the right Hymnal together.

God Bless You all!

We purchased the Hymnal prior to it's release and have been thrilled. The hymns are written in a more frendly key. We are anxiously waiting the arrival of the Worship Tracks.

Love the new hymnal now I want it in notebook style for accompanist. I want both piano and guitar chords. How do I get this shipped to me

Our small, rural, church recently replaced our old 1975 hymnals. Your representative, Sharkiesha DeMass, was so helpful and patient with our order. The hymnals arrived on time and we used them for the first time last week. There were a couple of issues with the condition. The printing on the spine was marred on one copy. There were about six others that have a small indentation on the cover just above where the name of the church was embossed. However, since we only ordered 50 copies, I don't want to send any back!

I believe strongly that this hymnal can be a healing force for the division we see in many of our churches over traditional versus contemporary music. The only criticism I've heard is that it is too heavy! Even though we are a small country church that will probably never use an in-focus or other modern technology associated with this project, I think this is the best Baptist hymnal published in the last 50 years for regular church use. The choice of material is so good, from older hymns that haven't been in there for years to recently copywrighted praise songs.

We are going to have a hymnal dedication service this Sunday, 1/18/09. I don't suppose you have any sample services we could use that could be emailed to us? Also, I don't suppose there is a Lifeway representative close enough to the Plainview, Texas area that could participate in our service?

On another note, I would like to make a suggestion. If Lifeway were to send a dozen cheaply printed booklets containing about 10 of these old classics (and perhaps some of the simple new songs) that have not been in the last two editions to all of the smaller churches in the convention, and provide them at events like the Texas Bivocational and Smaller Church Conference in Belton, Texas, I think you would end up selling a lot of hymnals. Especially if you sent a coupon for a particular amount off the price with the promotion. Our congregations want to sing songs like, "We'' ll Work 'till Jesus Comes," as well as, "He is Here (#94)."

In our service, we will be thanking God and praying for the Lifeway staff and musicians that made this hymnal possible. Thank you for all your hard work!

In Christ,

Brian Barkley

First Baptist Church
Edmonson, Texas

We purchased the new hymnals for our church and are content with them. The Worship Tracks where a huge disappointment to our church, and we can hardly use them. The vocals are old and dated, and most of the newer, more contemporary hymns included on the Tracks aren't in the hymnals. Wish you would have used musicians more like Maranatha instead of traditional choir.

One issue that I've noticed that will actually hold our church back from selecting this hymnal: it's too thick! It won't fit in the hymnal holders on the backs of our chairs (we have some old folding-style seats that have little boxes that are supposed to hold two hymnals each - only one of these will fit).

I was looking at all of the other hymnals on my shelf and all of them are the same thickness (with the exception of the Praise! hymnal) except this one. Some of the others even have a similar number of pages, but use a thinner paper and so end up the standard thickness.

Corey, the paper chosen for a hymnal is always a compromise between weight, opacity, thickness, durability, color... and more. There are some other large hymnals out there, and we are one of the larger ones. Sorry it's not going to work in your situation. :-/
