When I see the slogan "Got Milk?" it makes me think of a lifestyle of drinking milk for my health. Probably drinking it every day for strong bones and a healthy body.
What do you think about worship every day? I'm sure you'd agree that we should worship every day, but what exactly does that mean. Should we work in singing a song to God on the days we aren't at church? Maybe, but that can't be all there is to worship. I'm not going to try to totally "unpack" that bag in this post, but I would like to throw a thought at you.
Ps 19: 1&2 tells us this:
1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.
2 Day after day they pour out speech;
night after night they communicate knowledge.
Mad God Woman puts it well when she says:
I heard the first spring bird yesterday morning. Those who live in winter-touched climates can appreciate this. It certainly sounded like worship; although, as far as we know, birds don't worship like we do. Their songs are mostly mating and territorial calls, basic parent-child communication; functional stuff. But the birds in the morning are doing what they do and being what they are. They are focused and in-the-moment and absolutely at one with the beauties and the dangers all around them. They are as God made them; so, they sing in the morning. And who are we to say that that's not worship, perhaps the best and truest worship of all?
Reading that got me thinking about a squirrel I saw one time. it was going from tree to tree trying to find nuts to eat. Very focused. Very intent. I thought, "That squirrel is doing what God made him to do." And it was on a Tuesday afternoon of all times! I remember thinking that even though this squirrel was doing a great job at being a squirrel today he was probably going to come out tomorrow and be a squirrel again. I know that sounds silly, but in that moment I realized that I was seeing daily worship in action right before my eyes. The squirrel wasn't singing or raising his little paw to the sky. No ... just obeying his Creator.
Now I think to myself as I'm at work or playing with my kids ... Am I worshipping God? Am I doing what I was created to do? As the Chris Tomlin song says, "You and I were made to worship". Not "made to sing songs on Sunday with our friends". Aside of being a really terrible song title it wouldn't be true either. We're made to WORSHIP. A lifestyle of worship. Not just singing some songs on Sunday. Music isn't worship. Music is but one of the tools for worshipers to worship God. The act of true worship is in the heart of the worshiper.
One glass of milk a week isn't doing too much for my health. I don't think worshiping on Sunday morning and then going about my week without worshiping every day is what God intended when he sent his Son to rescue me.
In thinking about my health and strong bones I ask myself ... Got milk?
In thinking about being a true worshiper of God I ask myself ... Got worship?
