Ridgecrest Wednesday Song Feature: Dick and Mel Tunney

June 30, 2010 10:43 AM

Dick and Mel TunneyWednesday's Worship Leaders at Ridgecrest Worship Leadership Week are LifeWay Worship songwriters Dick and Mel Tunney. This husband and wife team have been making music together since their days in the Christian music group Truth, through the ministry of the group First Call and now in their own writing, singing and their own worship leadership training and consulting ministry.

Today, we're proud to announce that fourteen of their own worship arrangements have been added to LifeWayWorship.com through our custom producer program. These are "road-tested" demos and leadsheets that Dick and Mel have used in their worship ministries that you can now use in your church! You'll find familiar worship songs alongside brand new expressions of praise for every occasion.

Click here for the Dick and Mel Tunney songs available at LifeWayWorship.com, both the ones that they've arranged, and the ones that we've created full versions for.

Ridgecrest Tuesday Song Feature: PraiseGathering Music Group

June 29, 2010 08:26 AM

Jay RouseThis week, we're going to feature music that we're presenting at the LifeWay Worship Leadership Week at Ridgecrest Conference Center. Today, we're honored to have Randy Vader and Jay Rouse leading in worship and sharing about their company, PraiseGathering Music Group. PraiseGathering is now exclusively available from LifeWay Worship, and that means that their congregational worship arrangements are now available right here at LifeWayWorship.com.

Click here for a list of all of the PraiseGathering Music Group titles available at LifeWayWorship.com.

You'll find quite a few parts available for each song, along with accompaniment tracks for churches with no or few musicians. No musicians? No problem! And... when you have musicians join your church, you can move them to the print parts smoothly... playing the exact same arrangement you've been singing along to the track!

We're kind of cheating a bit on the 21 Days of New Music at LifeWayWorship.com, because we did mention PraiseGathering when we loaded their new songs onto the site, but with the breadth of titles that they have to offer, not to mention the number of top 100 CCLI songs that they have to offer, I'm sure you'll find several songs that are new to you... if not just fresh new versions of songs you already know.

July 4th is a Sunday?

June 25, 2010 14:07 PM

4th of July HamburgerDisclaimer: this blog entry is about the American Independence Day holiday. If you are reading this from one of our global neighbors... feel free to skip to the next entry!

According to WikiAnswers, July 4th has fallen on a Sunday in 1779, 1784, 1790, 1802, 1813, 1819, 1824, 1830, 1841, 1847, 1852, 1858, 1869, 1875, 1880, 1886, 1897, 1909, 1915, 1920, 1926, 1937, 1943, 1948, 1954, 1965, 1971, 1976, 1982, 1993, 1999 and 2004... and 2010! As worship planners, it presents us with some interesting challenges. Your church may be hauling out the red, white and blue bunting, you're busy googling "indoor fireworks," and you need the most patriotic program you can muster. Others will choose to leave the patriotic portion of the day to be outside of the worship service.

The good news is that no matter what you need, you'll find it at LifeWayWorship.com. Just search for the word "patriotic," and all of the songs, hymns and worship songs that we've tagged with the word will automagically appear! And, if you're looking for other themes or topics, head over to the home page, and type in whatever words you like. The site will search every theme and topic, along with every lyric of every verse of every song to help you mine through and find the perfect song for your worship moment!

Worship Evaluation

June 17, 2010 14:47 PM

CheckboxesDavid Manner gives an exhaustive explanation of why it's important to understand the principles behind why you worship the way you do at your church.

That leads me to the next question... how do you evaluate? Is it whenever you get around to it? Do you have a set time each week where "iron sharpens iron" in your church?

Curating worship

June 09, 2010 08:38 AM

p1020548.pngThis post by a couple visiting a Baptist church in New Zealand refers to the worship leadership there as "curating" the worship.

The wikipedia entry for curator says that it "means manager, overseer." I've always understood a curator as someone who preserves.

Is worship something to be curated?

Come see us this summer!

Worship Planning: Contextualization

June 03, 2010 08:26 AM

iStock_000001635420XSmall.jpgJosh Hamrick talks about being a missionary to the community around his church, and makes a provocative statement:

Now, this discussion must be taken with the assumption that God has no favorite genre. If He does, we should only play that style. Seeing that we don't know His style preference, we must conclude that all musical styles (more or less) are equal, and the content is where God finds pleasure.

Josh's choices have somewhat to do with geography: the community that he serves is in the country, not the city. What stylistic choices do you find yourself making in worship planning, and how do you choose what is "pleasing to God?"
